The second open beta for Monster Hunter Wilds has officially launched, and the excitement is palpable! First-timers can now dive in and catch a glimpse of what Monster Hunter Wilds offers, including a variety of hunts—one of which is an encounter with Arkveld, the game’s emblematic monster.

After selecting one of the fourteen weapons at your disposal, you’ll be equipped to confront more challenging creatures, such as the White Wraith. This tutorial will lead you step-by-step in overcoming Arkveld.

This Is an Advanced Monster Quest

Taking on this complex mission isn’t going to be a walk in the park, unlike your previous encounters with Chatacabra and Balahara during training. This upcoming battle is significantly tougher, necessitating swift reactions and an understanding of Arkveld’s fighting style. It’s much like our fight against Rey Dau – they’re both fierce creatures that can pack a punch if you’re not cautious. And Arkveld? He’s merely the start of the challenging battles you’ll face in Monster Hunter Wilds, with its adaptive difficulty that continues to rise.

You Only Have Limited Time

Similar to other trial battles in demo modes, the Arkveld combat has a fixed time limit of 20 minutes. If you aren’t able to defeat him within this timeframe, you will not complete the mission successfully. In contrast to earlier Monster Hunter games that only allowed three revival opportunities (fails) per quest, the battle against Arkveld offers five chances. This additional flexibility makes the fight more lenient, but don’t let your guard down!

Learning His Moveset

In the core of Monster Hunter lies the skill of understanding a monster’s repertoire, and Arkveld follows this tradition faithfully. If you’ve encountered lead monsters previously – for example, the teleporting vampire Elder Dragon Malzeno in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak – then you’re well-prepared for unexpected maneuvers. Arkveld has his own secret moves to keep you on your toes, and trust me, he does!

Mind the Chains

As a gamer, I’ve found that Arkveld’s unique move is his powerful organic whip, capable of dealing massive blows to enemies. With my beginner gear, these attacks really pack a punch. To dodge them, I either roll or perform a well-timed jump, reminiscent of Superman. However, these evasive maneuvers might limit chances for counterattacks.

Whenever Arkveld becomes upset, it’s best to maintain some distance and admire the profound aura he exudes. It’s only when his limbs start emanating a fiery red radiance that you can truly witness his immense power at work.

Force of Nature

An enraged Arkveld poses a significant threat. When he harnesses his draconic essence, his limbs or energy tendrils flare up in fiery red, and he’s capable of discharging a powerful dragon-like attack that inflicts heavy damage. If you can’t endure this fury, you won’t stand a chance against him.

Alright, I’ve got you covered!

“If you stick with it, Arkveld will eventually tire. For his weak spots, go for his head and chains with the hammer, while the longsword can cut through his chains – though whether you can completely sever them is still a mystery.”

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else. 😊

Contrary to the aura of power surrounding him, Arkveld isn’t recognized as an Elder Dragon. Similar to Gore Magala from earlier games, there’s an enigma about him. However, being non-Elder, he can indeed be caught and contained. Don’t hesitate to employ environmental traps; they can work wonders for you!

After you’ve worn him down through strategic combat, Arkveld will start hobbling – this should signal to you that the fight is close to reaching its peak.
