Continue reading for insights on overcoming Balahara in Monster Hunter Wilds, along with the prizes that await players upon its conquest.

How to Prepare for Balahara

In Monster Hunter Wilds, it’s crucial to consider a monster’s Special Attacks before embarking on any hunt. For instance, Balahara has just one special move called Waterblight. This is actually a debuff that slows down your stamina recovery rate.

To combat Waterblight effectively, gamers should gather a good amount of Nulberry during their adventures. This common resource, identifiable using the Filter Icon marker on your map, is useful in curing multiple types of blight. It’s best to stock up on as much as you can.

Apart from that, the main preparations for facing Balahara would be carrying Thunder Pods (which I’ll discuss further down) or Traps, depending on whether you intend to capture it instead of defeating it.

Make sure to stock up on Mega Potions and Flash Pods, and eat a strong meal to improve your stats.

Here are my recommendations for what ingredients to eat before hunting Balahara:

  • Veggies (Ration): Increases Health, Stamina, Defense, and Element Resistance
  • Airy Egg (Additional Ingredient): Repeatedly activates a large temporary attack boost at random intervals.
  • Eastern Honey (Finishing Touch): Increases the amout of health recovered when healing.

Balahara’s Weaknesses

Readying yourself for a confrontation with Balahara is merely the initial stage. Now, it’s crucial to identify and leverage its vulnerabilities to gain the advantage in the fight.

To accomplish this task effectively, you should employ the correct components (like an appropriate element or damage type), suitable items, and focus on vulnerable areas (specific body parts) for optimal harm.

Below you can find Balahara’s biggest weaknesses in Monster Hunter Wilds.

  • Element Weakness: Thunder
  • Damage-Type: Blunt
  • Status Effects: Paralysis
  • Effective Items: Flash Pods, Sonic Bomb, Shock Trap, Pitfall Trap
  • Body Parts: Head and Neck

Given that Balahara is a water-based creature, it’s most vulnerable to attacks of the Electric (Thunder) type. When it comes to status effects, inducing Paralysis would be the optimal choice.

Instead of carrying a weapon that has Thunder as an attribute, you can also cause Thunder damage by employing Thunder Pods. Boosting your abilities with the Thunder Attack Equipment Skill is another effective method for focusing on this vulnerability.

For inflicting maximum damage, it’s best to opt for a weapon that specializes in delivering blunt force.

In Monster Hunter, both Hammers and Hunting Horns deal blunt damage, but I personally favor the Hammer due to its notorious power level within the game.

When engaging with Balahara in combat, aim for its Head and Neck primarily. According to the Large Monster Field guide, these specific areas are given a four-star rating when struck with blunt weapons, implying they absorb the most damage among other body parts. Activate Focus Mode for an effortless way to zero in on these vulnerable spots.

How to Beat Balahara

Balahara is quite challenging to conquer due to its unique skills – it burrows into the ground and scales steep rocks.

However, once you grasp each attack strategy and learn how to respond effectively, it will significantly simplify your experience.

AttackDescriptionCounter
Pounce from AboveBalahara will climb a nearby ledge and then pounce down on the player.Typically, there is a wedge beetle that you can grab and sling away to get out of reach. If not, then just wait until Balahara jumps down and then dodge to the side.
Black WaterBalahara will reveal its mouth and shoot out black water that deals Waterblight damage. The black water has a decent range, meaning you can dodge towards the monster to have it travel over you. If the black water hits you, you’ll be infected with Waterblight, so make sure to use a Nulberry.
Vicious BiteBalahara will open its mouth and show its light blue interior. This means it’s about to lunge forward and bite you. This move can be countered by using an Offset Attack or Power Clash guard. If you’re not comfortable with the timing, then dodge to the back of Balahara and attack its tail.
Tail SwipeBalahara will swipe its tail if you stay behind it for too long.Either guard against this attack or dodge to the opposite side of the tail and apply pressure to its head.
Sand WormBalahara will dig into the ground and then jump out from another location, pouncing on the player.Continuously dodge to avoid getting hit since it’s hard to predict where Balahara will appear.
Lunge BiteOccasionally, the Balahara will lean back and open its mouth to do a lunge attack. If you’re quick enough here, you can use a Focus Strike on the glowing red target in its mouth to stun it.
Waterblight RainSometimes, Balahara will climb onto a rocky pillar for a while and spew Waterblight at the player.Eventually, the pillar will crumble, revealing a way to knock it down with your Slinger. Knock down the pillar to deal a huge amount of damage.

With these counters down, you’ll find it effortless to vanquish Balahara permanently. Fortunately, Balahara boasts one of the lowest health reserves among all game monsters.

After every assault, aim for its head and neck, and concentrate your strikes on any injuries you inflict on its body using the Focus Strikes technique.
