In all Monster Hunter games, Palicos have proven to be valuable allies. This remains valid in Monster Hunter World, as Felynes in this edition offer a range of supportive abilities to assist Hunters during battles with creatures such as Xu Wu and Nu Udra.
Having Felyne on your team is very useful because they have a variety of moves, from offensive to supportive skills. In total, there are 12 different Palico skills, some of which can be acquired by completing Optional Quests like the Rath-from-Above or Plunderang.

What is the Flashfly Cage Skill?
As a gamer, I’ve found a handy trick with my Palico’s move – the Flashfly Cage setup. This utility skill summons a cage filled with Flashflies, pesky bugs that can momentarily blind the monsters we face, giving me an edge in battle.
You can find a trap filled with Flashflies anytime you need it. These insects are excellent for temporarily blinding enemies, but keep in mind that some monsters may become more aggressive when they’re blinded, so exercise caution!
How to Get the Flashfly Cage Skill
To initiate the “Flashfly Cage Support” side quest, head over to your Palico at the tent in any of the base camps. Remember to be patient as they need to travel to a certain location first before you can interact with them. In this mission titled “Flash Course,” you’ll be tasked with capturing some elusive Flashflies.
As a fervent admirer, I find myself drawn into a quest where my trusty Palico is urging me to catch Flashflies. Intriguingly, this request seems to be based on a spark of inspiration, as it leads to the creation of a support move that momentarily disorients monsters. Armed with my capture net, I eagerly set out to nab these radiant insects, hoping they’ll illuminate my hunts in more ways than one!
To gather some Flashflies, simply make your way to the open area outside. There’s no need to engage in battles with any creatures you come across as our primary objective is only to catch Flashflies. However, feel free to take on any monsters if you fancy a fight!
As you examine your map, you’ll notice several icons scattered across it. Your task is to locate the yellow icon representing a flashfly. Additionally, when you open the full-screen map in the bottom left corner, you can use the “Show Icons” function to help you find specific icons more easily.
To catch the Flashfly, you should have the capture net which is one of your items, select it from the lower right corner. Then, point the capture net towards the Flashfly and hit the ‘Use’ or ‘R’ key (on a PC).
Once you’ve managed to trap the elusive Flashfly, feel free to return to any of your base camps. There, you can have a chat with your Felyne companion. You’ll pass on the Flashfly you’ve caught, and after some conversation, the Side Quest will be considered done. This means your Palico can now utilize the Flashfly Cage ability whenever you wish!
