Monster Hunter Wilds: How to Get the Rocksteady Mantle

In Monster Hunter World, there’s a vast array of armor sets and weapons available for players, yet it’s important to note that these aren’t the only items beneficial for embarking on quests. There are numerous accessories and consumables that prove useful in battle as well, such as the mantles which can be equipped.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, there’s a variety of mantles available, including the Ghillie Mantle, Mending Mantle, and the Rocksteady Mantle, which I discuss in this guide. Each has unique abilities that can be tactically employed during battles with monsters, or for those like me, they offer a sense of added security when facing these formidable creatures.

What is the Rocksteady Mantle?

In the game, one of the available mantles is called the Rocksteady Mantle. You can put it on when exploring or during missions by navigating through the quick slot options located at the bottom right corner of your screen.

This cloak grants temporary invulnerability to monstrous attacks, shielding you from being pushed back or suffering significant harm for a certain duration. It nullifies all damage sources, such as wind gusts, provides tremor resistance, and nullifies the stun caused by monster roars. However, keep in mind that mantles have a finite use, so be cautious when their power runs out.

How to Get the Rocksteady Mantle

Different from the Ghillie Mantle which players can access immediately, the Rocksteady Mantle becomes accessible only after finishing the quest “Black Flame: Long-forgotten Flame” before the conclusion of Chapter 2.

To continue with the current quest, you’ll first need to revisit Azuz and converse with Werner from the earlier mission titled “A Disquieting Dawn”. Upon completing that mission, this particular quest will become accessible. It’s advisable to ensure your equipment is upgraded with improved stats before moving forward as the task can prove to be difficult. Feel free to switch your layered armor if you wish to fight in a stylish manner.

When you’re fully prepared, it’s time to fend off the Ajarakans. It might be helpful to have some refreshing drinks at the ready since combat can make things quite heated. During your encounter with the Ajarakan, they will self-ignite, a sign that their attacks become more powerful. Try to dodge their assaults as much as possible and carry healing potions if you get hit. Upon successfully vanquishing the Ajarakan in the “Ajarakan Ablaze” Quest, return to Azuz.

Upon your return, a beast called “The Black Flame” or Nu Udra will arise from the forge. During the mission, you’ll be tasked with tracking and vanquishing it. As with most monsters, subduing Nu Udra might require effort. To keep your wits about you in the face of the intense heat, I recommend taking a refreshing break with a cool drink.

If you don’t manage to finish the hunt during the initial attempt, take some time to regroup, examine your equipment, and perhaps adjust your strategy. You might want to concoct several rejuvenating beverages, healing elixirs, and other items that can enhance your abilities before trying again.

After finishing your quest, make your way back to Base Camp in Windward Plains where you’ll find Gemma. Once you chat with her, she’ll hand over the Rocksteady Mantle to you.
