As a devoted fan, I can’t help but notice that Morgan Wallen is capitalizing on his recent controversial incident during Saturday Night Live, by offering “Get Me to God’s Country” merchandise on his official site.
Over the weekend, Wallen drew attention by abruptly leaving the stage during the finale of the show, followed by posting an Instagram story featuring a plane image accompanied by the caption “Off to God’s Turf.” Merchandise like T-shirts and caps emblazoned with this phrase are priced at $45 apiece.
According to a well-informed source, it appears that the sale of merchandise wasn’t something that was arranged in advance, but rather discussions about potential merchandise between Wallen and Bravado (Universal Music Group’s merchandise division) started as early as Sunday, following the viral success of a post made by the singer. By Monday, Bravado had already designed the merchandise, and it went live on Wallen’s website by Wednesday afternoon.
For several days now, there’s been much talk about what might have transpired with the artist famous for “Last Night,” as his sudden exit and Instagram post have sparked curiosity. Interestingly, the artist himself hasn’t commented on the matter. On Tuesday, a source revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that during dress rehearsal too, Wallen walked off the stage. Additionally, it was reported that he was invited to join the “Big Dumb Line” musical sketch broadcasted last Saturday, but unfortunately, he couldn’t make it, and Joe Jonas stepped in instead.
Wallen has faced criticism before, with one major incident occurring when he was recorded using a racial slur in 2021, which had an impact on his profession. He’s had some interactions with Saturday Night Live (SNL), as his first appearance was postponed in 2020 due to a video emerging showing him disregarding social distancing rules during the peak of the pandemic. However, he eventually made his official debut on the show two months later.
Kenan Thompson recently shared his thoughts about the latest development, during a chat with Entertainment Weekly. (This week)
As a gamer, I often find myself scratching my head, wondering about the thoughts behind some players’ moves. Was it a misunderstanding of the game rules, or perhaps they were in a particular emotional state? Either way, it leaves me puzzled.
In a playful manner, SNL writer Josh Patten, an apparent admirer of Morgan Wallen, took a jab at the current circumstances by sharing the phrase from “God’s Country” to bring attention to a Kriskey Kreme vehicle.
