Mortal Kombat 1: Official Sektor Gameplay Feels Iron Man-Coded

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the reveal of Sektor as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 1 is nothing short of exhilarating! Having grown up watching the original Cyrax and Sektor duo struggle to make an impact on the battlefield, it’s heartwarming to see them finally step into the limelight.

Originally, Mortal Kombat 1 featured a lineup of well-known characters, but mechanical warriors Sektor and Cyrax were initially assigned support roles, only aiding during battles. However, with the introduction of Khaos Reigns, these two characters are now set to join the fight as playable characters.

Cyrax had gotten the spotlight a few weeks ago, and now Sektor gets her time to shine.

Sektor Official Gameplay Revealed

In the latest trailer released by NetherRealm Studios, we get a glimpse of Sektor’s move set and the reasons behind her actions in the upcoming Khaos Reigns event.

This is also the official character description for Sektor courtesy of WB Games (via IGN):

In Liu Kang’s Fire God era, Sektor was raised in the heart of Lin Kuei culture, with her father being its chief armorer and her mother a prominent warrior. This deep understanding of weaponry and exceptional martial arts abilities, inherited from her parents, make Sektor an unmatched combatant. Recognizing a fellow spirit, Sub-Zero confided in her his vision for the Lin Kuei’s future and selected her as his most loyal deputy. Now, Sektor will drive the Lin Kuei to adapt or face elimination.

In addition to the unveiling of Sektor, it has also been confirmed that ‘Animalities’ will make a return and will be available at no cost for all characters.

From what we can see in Cyrax’s preview, it appears that Sektor might have a greater degree of expertise when it comes to wielding this advanced armor. Although Cyrax expresses doubts about the Lin Kuei’s intentions, Sektor seems more inclined towards carrying out Bi-Han’s original objectives.

Changes to Sektor and Cyrax

Initially, characters Sektor and Cyrax were first presented as cyborgs in the Mortal Kombat series, equipped with a unique collection of weapons housed within their bodies. However, as the games have evolved over time, Sektor and Cyrax have been portrayed as humans instead. Yet, the new timeline set by Fire God Liu Kang has reimagined these Cyber Lin Kuei agents so that they now wear advanced, high-tech body armor, suggesting they are human underneath.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that while both Cyrax and Sektor possess an array of weapons, their playstyles differ significantly. While Cyrax tends to favor setting traps and employing blades for close combat, Sektor seems to opt for more devastating arsenal like missiles and flamethrowers. Oh, and let’s not forget that she can take to the skies!

As a dedicated fan, I understand some might question if the new version of the duo leans too heavily on “Iron Man” elements, but let’s remember that “Mortal Kombat” has always been about honoring various fantastical genres. So, having a fighter with superhero undertones isn’t exactly an unexpected twist for our beloved franchise.

Kombat Pack 2

The Kombat Pack 2 for the Khaos Reigns expansion is set to include six downloadable characters upon release. Among them, Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot will be playable from the start. However, there are additionally three guest-characters yet to be disclosed, with Ghostface (from the Scream movies), Conan the Barbarian (the Conan movie featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger), and the T-1000 (from Terminator 2: Judgement Day) being part of this lineup as well.

Ordering the game expansion ahead of time offers players unique character skins for Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena, and Noob Saibot as an added perk.
