As a gamer who’s spent countless hours mastering the art of Mortal Kombat, I can hardly contain my excitement over the upcoming sequel! From the looks of it, Ed Boon has given us a tantalizing sneak peek into the world of Mortal Kombat 2, and I must say, Adeline Rudolph as Princess Kitana seems like a perfect fit. It’s refreshing to see a faithful representation of our beloved characters from the original games.
It has begun. We have our first look at Mortal Kombat 2, straight from one of the creators. According to a report by ComicBook, Ed Boon has provided fans with the first look at the upcoming sequel to the hit 2021 live-action adaptation of the classic video game. The image, shared to Boon’s social media, provides a partial glimpse of Princess Kitana, one of the fan-favorite core characters from the game, who makes her debut in the sequel.
In a recent post on X (previously known as Twitter), Boon asserted that he snapped the photo using Todd Garner’s phone during a preview of the unfinished film. He humorously compared this situation to the numerous video game leaks he has encountered, implying, “I can leak secrets just like everyone else.”
In the scene we witness, Kitana’s face remains hidden, yet Adeline Rudolph, known for her role in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, takes on the character. Over the years, Kitana’s appearance in the video games has undergone changes, but her costume here appears to stay true to the original designs. We do catch a clear view of her elaborate steel fans, a signature weapon from the games that she wields skillfully.
The new photo was unveiled only a few days following the San Diego Comic Con event, where actor Lewis Tan participated and talked about the upcoming movie. Unfortunately, no trailer for the film was presented at the convention. Dropping this image so quickly after Comic Con might be an attempt to appease fans who were anticipating some sort of reveal during the San Diego event.
Which Characters Will Appear in Mortal Kombat 2?
The upcoming Mortal Kombat sequel will introduce more characters from its universe, but specific story details remain undisclosed at this time. Previously, screenwriter Greg Russo hinted that the second movie would unfold during the Mortal Kombat tournament, potentially explaining the presence of Kitana and Johnny Cage, portrayed by Karl Urban. Filming for the movie concluded earlier in 2021, allowing Ed Boon to view a preliminary version of the film.
In this upcoming film, we have fresh additions to our cast: Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, Desmond Chaim as King Jerrod, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, and Martyn Ford as Shao Khan. Notable returning characters include Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Mehcad Brooks as ‘Jax’ Briggs, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion. Joe Taslim, known for his role as Sub Zero in the first movie, will return in an unspecified part. Baraka is set to make a comeback too, but we’re yet to learn whether he’ll be portrayed by CGI or an actor.
Mortal Kombat 2
