- Moshi Monsters is coming back! Well, sort of.
- A new Kickstarter from Mind Candy could see the classic MMORPG make a return
- This new mobile release is pitched as more story-driven, but with many classic features
Among British gaming enthusiasts, few names stir up feelings of nostalgia like Moshi Monsters. Back then, these cute yet odd creatures were everywhere – on TV commercials, magazines, and computers near you. It appears that the Moshi Monsters might return to our screens once more, this time being developed by their original creators, Mind Candy.
A fresh Kickstarter campaign has been initiated by the developer, offering an update to the popular Flash MMORPG, now playable on mobile devices. According to the developers’ statement, this new mobile version will transport players back to Monstro City, which was devastated by a mysterious asteroid impact, and their mission will be to rebuild and restore their hometown.
In this game, you’ll assume the role of one of the six initial Moshi Monsters, caring for and developing your unique virtual pet much like in the original version. Simultaneously, you’ll embark on a fresh, story-driven adventure filled with mini-games reminiscent of the original MMORPG. Additionally, your mission includes rebuilding the legendary Monstro City, just as it was in the past.
Monstrous!
Frequently, I emphasize that the realm of mobile gaming has a significant debt to Flash. Platforms like Newgrounds, Miniclip, and Armour Games ignited the passion for gaming among numerous younger players, and mechanics and game genres initially developed in the Flash world have now become commonplace on mobile devices.
In essence, Moshi Monsters could serve as a gauge to determine if the nostalgia factor is strong enough to revive one of these long-dormant releases, given their iconic status. If you’re interested in assisting Mind Candy in resurrecting Moshi Monsters, I recommend visiting their Kickstarter page for further details before it concludes on August 15th.
