This new opportunity comes following Eydelshteyn’s standout performance as Ivan “Vanya” Zakharov, the romantic interest in Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or-winning film Anora.

Information about season 2 of Mr. and Mrs. Smith is limited for now, but with Eydelshteyn in charge, it seems likely that the show will adopt an anthology format, featuring different pairs of actors portraying Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith in each episode. Showrunner Francesca Sloane has hinted at this possibility without confirming it directly. As for who might play the female title character, Billie Eilish was reportedly considered for the role at one point.

The duo known as Mr. and Mrs. Smith, initially conceived by Sloane and Donald Glover, will resume their roles as producers during the second season. In the first season, the narrative revolved around a couple (Glover and Maya Erskine), who were strangers before they became spies for a clandestine agency through an arranged marriage. Eydelshteyn Made A Bold Choice For His ‘Anora’ Audition Tape

Initially, Eydelshteyn showcased his skills to American viewers through the movie “Anora“, but he has been a consistent performer in his native Russia for quite some time now. His breakthrough came with his portrayal of the main character in the 2022 coming-of-age film “Strana Sasha” (known as “The Land of Sasha“). He also made appearances in the television series “Monastery“, as well as the sci-fi movie “Guest from the Future“.

Regarding his audition for the show Anora, Eydelshteyn chose to make a completely bare self-recording. He explained to Deadline, “Sending nude self-tapes in Hollywood can be quite daring… But, it’s Ivan.
