MSNBC is officially announcing adjustments to their programming schedule, promoting several prominent personalities to evening slots, while simultaneously implementing significant modifications to their weekend and daytime broadcasts.
Significant shifts in the schedule were foreshadowed during the weekend, leading to significant alterations in MSNBC’s evening and prime-time programming.
I’ve been eagerly awaiting the news, and it’s finally here! Come April, Rachel Maddow will be back to her weekly schedule, which means Jen Psaki will step in for the 9 p.m. slot on Tuesdays through Fridays. Meanwhile, my favorite hosts from The Weekend, Alicia Menendez, Michael Steele, and Symone Sanders-Townsend, are moving up to the 7 p.m. hour. Not only that, but they’ll be hosting a two-hour show every Monday from 7-9 p.m. Can’t wait to see what they have in store!
In light of the updates, Joy Reid, the current host of MSNBC’s 7 p.m. slot, will be departing from the channel. In her absence, various hosts will take turns filling in until the new lineup is established. Alex Wagner, who was previously managing the 9 p.m. time slot on Tuesdays through Fridays, will continue to work with MSNBC as a senior political analyst.
Hey there fellow gamers!
I wanted to reach out to everyone today as MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler has announced some changes within our organization. I wish I could have been the one to share this news with all of you directly, but unfortunately, some of you may have first learned about it over the weekend. I understand that this might have caused some frustration among us, and I apologize for any confusion or discomfort this may have caused.
Stay awesome!

Over the weekend, MSNBC is set to debut a fresh trio of co-hosts for their program. Jonathan Capehart will take on the role as one of the morning hosts, while Ayman Mohyeldin will join as one of the evening co-hosts. The identities of the other hosts are yet to be determined. In addition, Ali Velshi is expanding his weekend show to a three-hour broadcast.
As part of MSNBC breaking away from NBCUniversal, the cable network is planning to centralize its production in New York City and Washington D.C. This move includes establishing an independent news bureau in Washington D.C., with the intent to recruit journalists and correspondents to establish a fresh newsgathering team.
Consequently, the broadcast from Miami will come to an end, with José Díaz-Balart Reports and The Katie Phang Show no longer being produced.
Diaz-Balart stays on as a weekend anchor for NBC Nightly News, while Phang remains with MSNBC in her legal correspondent role. These changes during the daytime hours will see Ana Cabrera taking over an extra hour and anchoring Ana Cabrera Reports from 10 am to 12 pm. Chris Jansing moves on to anchor Chris Jansing Reports from midday to 2 pm. Katy Tur extends her show, Katy Tur Reports , by an hour, covering the period from 2 pm to 4 pm.
You can read Kutler’s memo, below.
Team,
Previously, I mentioned that my aim is to further strengthen MSNBC’s achievements which set it apart from competitors. Currently, we boast one of the most involved television audiences and are witnessing a swift increase across digital platforms, audio, and various other areas. In the coming years, it’s crucial that we remain responsive to our audience during this vital period while also preparing ourselves optimally for the future.
Today, I’m excited to pass along changes in our daily and weekend schedules. I apologize for any inconvenience, as I wished to inform each one of you personally, and I realize that some of you found out about these updates over the weekend rather than directly from me, which I understand may have caused frustration.
- In primetime, Jen Psaki will move to the 9 p.m. hour on Tuesdays through Fridays. Since joining MSNBC, Psaki has become a crucial and trusted voice for the network. Her Sunday program is now the most-watched show on the weekends, her expansion to Mondays has been a fast success, and “The Blueprint with Jen Psaki” has quickly become a top-rated news podcast.
- Following the first 100 days of the Trump administration, “The Rachel Maddow Show” will return to Mondays at 9 p.m.
- Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez, the current co-hosts of “The Weekend,” will move to weekdays at 7 p.m. to host a new ensemble news program with a two-hour edition on Mondays. Since its launch, “The Weekend” has seen a significant and sustained increase in audience engagement, and we are excited to build on that momentum during the week.
- Joy Reid is leaving the network and we thank her for her countless contributions over the years. Her work has been recognized with several esteemed honors, including most recently, the 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News Series. In the coming weeks, rotating anchors will host the hour.
- Alex Wagner will remain a senior political analyst with the network and continue to bring her journalistic and production expertise to MSNBC audiences across all day parts. Her reporting ahead of the 2024 election and in the early days of the new administration has provided audiences with an indispensable perspective at a key moment in American politics.
- We are increasing live programming by two hours on the weekends. Soon, we will announce a new trio of co-hosts for “The Weekend,” which will include MSNBC host and The Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart. We will also introduce an evening edition of the program, hosted by a different group of anchors, including veteran MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin. We will have more to share in the weeks ahead.
- Ali Velshi will also expand his namesake program, “Velshi” to three hours on the weekends.
- In the coming months, MSNBC will consolidate its broadcast locations to New York and Washington, D.C. and sunset our production operations in Miami. This change will impact the Miami-based shows “José Díaz-Balart Reports” and “The Katie Phang Show.” Díaz-Balart will remain with NBC News as anchor of “Weekend Nightly News” and Phang will remain with MSNBC as a legal correspondent.
- On the dayside front, “Ana Cabrera Reports” will expand to 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; “Chris Jansing Reports” will shift to 12 to 2 p.m., and “Katy Tur Reports” will add another hour to anchor from 2 to 4 p.m.
Unless otherwise noted above, these changes will go into effect in late April.
Over the next few months, I’m excited to unveil some major updates about growing our presence in Washington D.C., such as setting up an office and hiring both local and global reporters to beef up our news coverage.
I appreciate your ongoing dedication to our mutual goal of delivering information consistently through all our communication channels.
Or,
I’m grateful for your persistent effort in helping us maintain an informed audience across all our mediums.
Both sentences convey the same meaning while using different words and structures.
Throughout the day, team heads and human resources administrators will sit down with different teams for in-depth discussions on these matters.
