As a gamer who’s lived through the highs and lows of R&B music, I must say Muni Long‘s new album “Revenge” feels like a breath of fresh air. After years of listening to the same monotonous lyrics and beats, it’s heartening to see an artist like Muni stepping up to save R&B from its own repetitive demise.
Muni Long is set to unveil a fresh version of herself on her eagerly awaited album titled “Revenge.” This second studio effort, the album showcases the singer-songwriter as more self-assured and introspective than she’s ever been.
She shared with Hypebae that this album marks a significant change for her, as it’s the first time she’s poured her genuine emotions and personal experiences onto vinyl. Previously, she would often imagine or write from someone else’s perspective based on their stories. However, in this case, she decided to use the process as therapy, sharing what she’s truly experiencing herself.
This compilation, featuring 14 tracks, includes earlier hits such as “Made For Me,” “Make Me Forget,” and “Ruined Me,” and according to Muni Long, it’s exactly what the R&B music scene has been missing.
To her, preserving R&B music involves fostering an environment where it can thrive and gain influence. She noted a growing resurgence in the popularity of R&B, which is fantastic news. With this revival comes increased budgets, potentially leading to opportunities for TV, film appearances, and live performances.
In the early 2000s, R&B music was ubiquitous on the radio and TV. Nowadays, it seems harder to find and requires effort to discover. I’m grateful for being a representative of what a genuine song should sound like, not just repetition of the same words. This isn’t meant as criticism towards those artists, but we could certainly use more depth in lyrics. If possible, can we reach out to Babyface and request some meaningful songs?
