On January 7th, it was announced that Kobalt, an independent music publisher, appointed Rani Hancock as Executive Vice President, Head of U.S. Creative. With extensive experience in A&R (Artist & Repertoire), she will now oversee the creative teams based in New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville for Kobalt.
Hancock has just finished her tenure as the Executive Vice President and Head of A&R at Columbia Records, where she collaborated on tracks from artists like Dove Cameron and Maren Morris. Her professional journey started by working under Clive Davis at Arista Records, subsequently rising to become the Executive Vice President of A&R at RCA Records. During her time there, she signed numerous top-charting acts including Miley Cyrus, Kesha, and Becky G, while also contributing to hits for Pitbull and Britney Spears. Additionally, she served as president of Sire Records.
Kobalt CEO Laurent Hubert stated that Rani is a creative executive who has consistently viewed songwriters as essential to our industry, when announcing her new role. This perspective, combined with her extensive background in the business, represents the type of innovative leadership and creative insight we need for our U.S. creative team’s future development.
Speaking as a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: “As a gamer, I’m thrilled to have Rani on board! Her grasp of the ever-changing music industry and her dedication to fostering talent make her an invaluable asset. With her creative vision and proven success, she’s the ideal choice to lead our U.S. creative team, helping songwriters, artists, and producers reach their full potential.
Becoming part of Kobalt is a fantastic chance to collaborate with a company that highly appreciates songwriters, artists, and producers, stated Hancock. “Laurent and Jeannette have constructed an outstanding team that fosters creativity and innovation. I’m genuinely thrilled about the prospect of working together with them in supporting the upcoming generation of creative minds.
As a gamer, I’m part of a global powerhouse that spans 13 locations worldwide. This gaming-like universe I’m referring to, known as Kobalt, is where the tunes of heavyweights like Max Martin, Roddy Ricch, Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Karol G, and Phoebe Bridgers are managed. We represent approximately 35% of the top 100 songs in both the U.S. and the UK, making us a significant player in the music industry.
