Moving from Maya Perry’s eerie memorial artworks to Jun Tsunoda’s paintings inspired by nature, the artworks displayed at the 11th NADA New York delve into personal legends and various cultural aspects. This year’s event takes place between May 7-11 at New York’s Starrett-Lehigh Building, hosting a total of 120 exhibitors from 19 countries and 50 cities. Among these are 54 newcomers such as Gallery Common from Tokyo.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m diving deep into the vibrant world of art this year, focusing on artists hailing from Mexico and Texas. The TD Bank Curated Spotlight, masterminded by Owen Duffy at Asia Society Texas, is my guide in this journey. This unique event highlights themes of ritual, perception, and resistance that are intriguing me to no end.
On the other hand, I’m eagerly awaiting the return of NADA Presents. It’s a platform where artists perform live, and intellectuals gather for thought-provoking discussions. Whether you’re new to art or a seasoned connoisseur like myself, this event promises an enriching experience that I can’t wait to be a part of!
Amidst the bustle of the fair and the frenzy of New York Art Week, here are some top-notch booths at NADA that can provide a refreshing break from the clamor:

NARANJO 141 — Booth A108
For the first time at NADA New York, NARANJO 141 unveils Pauline Shaw’s latest creations, showcased under the TD Bank Curated Spotlight. Based in New York City, Shaw is renowned for her expansive felted wool artworks. Her work delves into the intricate structures of knowledge and the influences that mold our understanding. With a versatile approach encompassing glass, metal, and textiles, Shaw bridges scientific investigation and spiritual symbolism, creating visual terrains that probe the ways we attribute significance in an increasingly intricate universe.
Dio Horia — Booth B111
Dio Horia presents fresh creations by Chris Akordalitis, who persists in his thematic collection focusing on patterns of light and shadow. Using symbolism, mythology, and personal recollections, Akordalitis delves into the ambiguity that seems to characterize our contemporary society, which he refers to as the “New Dark Age.” His exhibit delves into the repeated occurrence of cultural infection throughout history and its connections with gender roles, societal standards, and collective consciousness.
Gallery Common — Booth C211
As a passionate admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Gallery Common has united the artistic talents of Waku Fukui, Shun Kadohashi, and Jun Tsunoda in a joint exhibition. Each artist delves into their respective mediums – neon, ceramics, and multimedia painting – with an shared yearning to reconnect with fundamental sources of inspiration. The exhibit itself seems to embody nature’s tangible essence through motifs of sunlight, trees, and earthy tones, provoking contemplation on the very essence of humanity.
JO-HS Gallery — Booth A203
For the TD Bank Highlighted Showcase, JO-HS Gallery showcases fresh artworks by Melissa Ríos. Originating from Mexico City, Ríos’ artistic endeavors span painting and drawing to delve into the intriguing balance between figuration and abstraction. Her creative process intertwines surrealist, literary, and feminist concepts, providing multiple perspectives on the human form and intimate realms.
RAINRAIN — Booth B108
For the first time in NADA New York, RAINRAIN presents “The Heat of a Mirrored Image”, an individual project by Maya Perry. The booth transforms into a chilling installation where rituals, memories, and trauma intersect. Candles illuminating the entrance guide visitors towards a central tower-like construction adorned with oil pastel panels. These pieces portray everyday scenes disrupted by mental distress, creating a fractured storyline that investigates the eerie ways memory can skew truth.
