As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest addition to Modern Warfare 3’s Aftermarket Part cycle has me scratching my head. The JAK Cataclysm kit for the RPK is like a kid who’s just discovered his dad’s secret stash of candy – initially exciting, but ultimately problematic when everyone else wants a taste.
In Modern Warfare 3, the Aftermarket Part cycle has shown a lot of variety. It’s been a process of creation, consumption, and adjustment, with incredibly potent JAK conversion kits being developed only to be weakened shortly afterward.
Since the initial release of AMP kits during the Beta phase, Renettis dominated the meta, making the JAK conversions resemble a game of Jenga where they were continually built up and knocked down. The sole uncertainty that arose was how long these AMP kits could maintain their supremacy.
Once more, the tale repeats as the reign of the RPK begins, yet the masses are clamoring for their kingdom to crumble.
Modern Warfare 3 players call for RPK nerfs with new AMP kit
As a devoted enthusiast, I must say, the JAK Cataclysm kit for the RPK feels like a mind-boggling transformation straight from the Aftermarket Parts feature! This remarkable upgrade has turned the drum magazine into a chamber for sniper bullets and breathed new life into the LMG, transforming it into the iconic Barrett .50cal.
Typically, the RPK is recognized as a versatile and rapid-firing light machine gun that serves as a transitional weapon, offering characteristics similar to long-range assault rifles but packing a punch more akin to the powerful 100-round monsters such as the Bruen.
But, the Cataclysm kit turned the gun into a one-shot-kill sniper anywhere in the body. It’s made it incredibly powerful, while its speed has also forced it to be a demon on small maps. However, just weeks after being added, fans want it nerfed.
You think the RPK needs a nerf?

On Reddit, a player inquired, “Do you believe the RPK requires a balance adjustment?“. This was accompanied by a video from Rust showing them amassing close to ten kills with just a handful of shots, leading several other players to advocate for its removal.
“Definitely. They just gave an lmg sniper rounds but kept lmg stats, at least they learned their lesson and didn’t keep lmg aim assist,” said one fan.
Another agreed, adding, “It’s a cheese gun, and not the first one so the novelty of having a purposely overpowered weapon in the game has long passed and now it’s just annoying.”
The original poster jokingly mentioned that in this video, they were matched against a developer. They expressed hope that the issue would be addressed. Since many players in the game were using the RPK, the poster only used it themselves. The player known as “PokerFace” from Raven Software is clearly visible in the clip.
It’s possible that the equilibrium of weapons won’t be relevant until at least two weeks from now, during Season 5 Reloaded. This is when we might see a fresh JAK kit dominating the game with a new form of excessive power.
