My Adventures With Superman’s Supergirl Actress Shares How Kara Will Grapple With Brainiac’s Demise In Season 3

As a long-time fan of Superman and his extended family, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of empathy for Kara Zor-El, or Supergirl as she is now known. Her journey from being Brainiac’s tool to becoming Earth’s protector has been nothing short of heart-wrenching, and it’s clear that her life will never be easy.

In the animated series titled “My Adventures with Superman,” Kara Zor-El initially followed Brainiac’s orders, but after discovering the truth about her adoptive father, she chose to defy him and aid her cousin, Clark Kent/Kal-El in overcoming their robot adversary during Season 2’s finale. Now, Kara has been recognized as Supergirl and has gained new relatives such as Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen. As “My Adventures with Superman” is set to return for Season 3, viewers can expect to witness Kara building a new life on Earth; however, her existence won’t magically become trouble-free. The voice actress behind Kara, Kiana Madeira, hinted that her character will struggle with the aftermath of Brainiac’s destruction in the upcoming season.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Madeira conversed with our Sean O’Connell along with costars Alice Lee, Ishmel Sahid, and the producers Jake Wyatt, Brendan Clogher, and Josie Campbell of “My Adventures with Superman”. When asked by Sean if Season 3 would delve into Kara’s emotional turmoil stemming from the events involving Brainiac in Season 2 (available for streaming with a Max subscription), the actress replied:

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel a sense of empathy for this character. She was brought up with Brainiac as her… well, not exactly father, but the one thing she believed loved her. He was her whole life and all her core memories. So, I don’t think it will be simple for her to move past that, but I am genuinely intrigued and eager to witness how she manages such a complex situation. It seems she’s embarking on a journey to find her place on Earth, and I can’t wait to join her on this adventure.

Instead of Kal-El, who arrived on Earth and grew up under the care of a loving couple, Kara Zor-El was discovered by the power-hungry Brainiac, an artificial intelligence responsible for managing every spacecraft, computer, city, and defense system in the Kryptonian Empire. It was later revealed that Brainiac annihilated Krypton when its inhabitants began negotiating peace with a rival force, which he found repulsive. Following Krypton’s destruction, Brainiac focused on creating the New Kryptonian Empire, and Kara, his “heir,” assisted him in this endeavor.

Regrettably, what Kara had hoped would be a flourishing New Kryptonian Empire turned out to be a deception. It was revealed that Brainiac had manipulated her into destroying any planet that resisted the Empire’s control. At first, she doubted if her father was malfunctioning, but soon learned he’d been deceitful all along. Luckily, Superman intervened and prevented Brainiac from annihilating Earth. After Brainiac’s physical form was destroyed, Kara managed to secure his computer core, which currently remains inoperative.

In a series such as “My Adventures with Superman,” it’s challenging to conceive of Brainiac not being resurrected at some stage, especially if the series continues into Season 4 and potentially beyond, as the showrunners intend. However, focusing on Season 3, Kiana Madeira understands that Kara will grapple with the complex feelings she harbors towards this father figure who manipulated her throughout her life. Despite his heinous actions, he was the one who raised Kara and made her feel unique, even though he held contempt for her by the end. It’s an understatement to call these emotions simple because, even with all the wrongs he did, this is the person who shaped Kara’s life in significant ways, and such deep-seated feelings don’t fade easily.

In Season 3 of My Adventures with Superman, there are exciting new elements to anticipate such as the arrival of Conner Kent’s Superboy version, Han Henshaw possibly becoming Cyborg Superman, and Lex Luthor collaborating with Slade Wilson while losing his hair.
