Mystery Obsidian game has players hoping for a Fallout return

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can’t help but feel a familiar twinge of excitement when rumors of a potential Fallout: New Vegas sequel surface. My first foray into the post-apocalyptic wasteland was in 2010, and that game, crafted by the masterful minds at Obsidian Entertainment, left an indelible mark on my gaming journey.

Once more, I find myself eagerly awaiting the return of excitement, akin to anticipating the arrival of a new train car, laden with speculation about a potential Fallout game from Obsidian Entertainment. Similar to the persistent murmurs surrounding a Bloodborne remake or Banjo-Kazooie revival, whispers of a Fallout: New Vegas sequel ignite a spark within me that few rumors can match.

When Bethesda Softworks assumed control over Fallout 3, there arose speculation about how to bridge the period between the third game and the later launch of Fallout 4. To fill this void, Obsidian Entertainment was entrusted with the project and released Fallout: New Vegas as a side story in 2010.

With Avowed set to release later in 2021 and The Outer Worlds 2 planned for a later date, Obsidian Entertainment has quite a few projects underway. Additionally, they continue to support Grounded on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. If the team responsible for Grounded completes their tasks, it could allow some of Obsidian’s staff to focus on developing another unnamed project.

On Reddit, some gaming enthusiasts noticed that Daniel Cabuco, Art Director at Obsidian, has mentioned an “unannounced project” on LinkedIn without revealing any details about its release or content. Since Cabuco appears to be open about it, we’re eagerly waiting for an upcoming announcement regarding this game.

As someone who has been following the gaming industry for quite some time, I can’t help but be intrigued by the recent developments surrounding the new project that has seemingly opened the gates to conjecture. From my perspective, it appears that one of the possibilities being bandied about is that it might involve Josh Sawyer, the Director of New Vegas. Interestingly enough, a comment I recently came across suggests that Pentiment was given the go-ahead as a means to keep Mr. Sawyer on board. Given his impressive track record in the industry and the impact he’s made with projects like Fallout: New Vegas, it wouldn’t be surprising if this were true. It will indeed be exciting to see what he brings to the table next!

Previously, Sawyer has shared his personal concepts for a hypothetical New Vegas follow-up, expressing interest in revisiting the series but proposing a shift to California. Given our past disappointments regarding a potential New Vegas sequel, remaster, or comeback, we’ll approach with skepticism.

As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich and imaginative worlds of video games, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation when a mysterious new project is announced with little to no information about its identity. My gaming journey has been filled with moments of joy, frustration, and everything in between, and these enigmatic announcements always bring back memories of the thrill of uncovering secrets in my favorite games.

Even though there’s a possibility this new game isn’t Fallout, some people are speculating strongly, “Obsidian getting a bit eccentric. With releases like Grounded, Pentiment, Avowed, and The Outer Worlds 2 in this generation, it’s plausible to assume that this unannounced project could very well be another Fallout.” While we won’t bet everything on it, we’re ready to take a risk and believe Obsidian might develop another Fallout game.
