Nadaaniyan: Ibrahim Ali Khan’s on-screen mom Dia Mirza calls personal attacks ‘disrespectful’ as she reacts to backlash; ‘I’ve been concerned…’

The romantic comedy “Nadaaniyan,” featuring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, was launched online last March. Shortly after its premiere, the main actors faced severe criticism and online bullying regarding their acting skills in the movie. In response to this negative feedback, Dia Mirza, who portrayed Ibrahim’s mother, voiced her worries about the mental well-being of today’s young generation.

In a chat with Bombay Times, Dia Mirza shared that she’s always opposed to making personal attacks. While she acknowledges everyone’s right to voice their opinions, she believes this shouldn’t compromise anyone’s emotional well-being.

In her opinion, she has always disapproved of personal attacks as they are both disrespectful and harmful. While it’s acceptable for everyone to hold their own opinions, she believes that these opinions should not come at the expense of someone else’s mental well-being. She has been particularly worried about the rough comments directed towards the young actor. She feels there is a prevailing culture that seems to target the privileged, which she finds harsh because everyone has their own struggles to overcome.

In our chat, she disclosed her evolving perspective on what constitutes success. Initially, when she embarked on her journey, she associated it with box-office numbers and tangible riches. (Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein actress)

However, she’s come to understand through her experiences that it’s not just about being present, but also about coming prepared for every moment and having a good grasp of the environment you’re involved in. She explained it as “being ready to give your best when an opportunity arises.

Previously, seasoned actor Jugal Hansraj, known for his role as Ibrahim’s father, expressed that criticisms leveled at him on social media were “frivolous and minor.” In an interview with India Today Digital, he underscored the importance of constructive criticism, which can aid in personal growth.

The movie “Nadaaniyan” is supported by Dharmatic Entertainment, a production company owned by Karan Johar, who also produced the film alongside Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra. In the lead roles are Ibrahim and Khushi, with Jugal Hansraj, Dia Mirza, Mahima Chaudhary, Suniel Shetty, Apoorva Mukhija, and others playing significant parts. You can watch it now on Netflix.

On the other hand, Dia Mirza’s next film Kaafir will start streaming on Zee 5 from April 4, 2025.
