Nadine Crocker on Continue, the Movie Raising Money for Suicide Prevention

As a mental health advocate and a follower of Nadine Crocker’s journey, I am deeply moved by her relentless dedication to raising awareness about suicide prevention and mental health issues. Her personal experiences have not only fueled her creativity but also inspired her to make a real difference in the world. The release of “Continue” during World Suicide Prevention Month is more than just a film release; it’s a beacon of hope for those struggling and a catalyst for meaningful conversations about mental health.

In an interview with Nadine Crocker prior to the premiere of her emotionally intense film, “Continue”, we discussed her role as both writer, director, and lead actor in this dramatic piece. When asked about her initial expectations for the project by MovieWeb, she admitted, “The girl who embarked on that journey, thinking she could juggle 33 roles, was quite naive, but I’m glad she was because it was a delightful experience.

In the upcoming series, Crocker portrays Dean, a character who is a young woman grappling with emotional turmoil, experiencing a self-destructive mental breakdown as “Continue” begins. The story emphasizes mental health issues and suicide prevention, making it particularly relevant at the time of its release on Sep. 6. As Crocker explained, “[The team] all agreed that we should hold off on releasing this film until September, as that’s World Suicide Prevention Month.” We felt strongly that this was the right moment to share our work with the world, and so here it is, now debuting in September.

Crocker expressed her hope that the film would ignite meaningful discussions about suicide, particularly during this month. Furthermore, a portion of the movie’s earnings will be donated to charity. In writing the film, she decided to channel those points into charitable contributions. She founded her own nonprofit organization, Continue On.” She added:

The purpose behind our nonprofit organization is to establish a fund that will cover mental health services for underprivileged young individuals who cannot otherwise afford these essential services. Moreover, we have decided to collaborate with other existing nonprofits by donating a portion of the proceeds. Thus, I’m optimistic that this film won’t just stir emotions with its message, but it will also make a tangible difference in lives saved through the donations generated. That’s why it was crucial for us to launch this project during September.

Cinematic Therapy with Emily Deschanel: ‘Such a Pro’

The movie gains a lot from its impressive ensemble, featuring Emily Deschanel – renowned for her role in Bones – portraying Dr. Janet, who is both stern yet caring towards Dean. Some of the most impactful moments in the film are Crocker’s emotionally raw scenes with the exceptionally talented Deschanel.

Emily is the one who checks in on me the most and offers love and support more than anyone else, as Crocker shared with us. She’s truly remarkable, not to mention incredibly gifted as an actor, always professional and unfazed by anything. It’s a joy to work with her, and I feel like I’ve learned so much about acting just from collaborating with her. So yes, she’s simply amazing.
