National Treasure 3 Writer Reveals Major Script Update & Plot Details for the Disney Sequel

As a die-hard National Treasure fan who has followed this franchise since its inception 18 years ago, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming third installment! The confirmation that screenwriter Ted Elliot has completed the first draft of the script is music to my ears and finally puts an end to the endless speculation surrounding the film’s existence.

For over a decade, the production of National Treasure 3 has faced numerous setbacks, but recently, screenwriter Ted Elliot provided a significant boost to the project. In 2004, the first film, National Treasure, hit theaters, featuring Nicolas Cage as Benjamin Gates, a passionate historian turned treasure hunter seeking the Declaration of Independence. Although it received mixed reviews, both the original film and its sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, have garnered a dedicated fanbase who eagerly await a conclusion to the second movie’s unresolved mystery.

On the National Treasure Hunt podcast, Ted Elliot disclosed some exciting updates about the upcoming third movie. Elliot stated that he has finished writing the initial script draft for the film. There have been conflicting rumors regarding the status of National Treasure 3, but with this announcement, it’s clear that the project is now underway. Moreover, Elliot shared insights about the direction in which the third installment is heading and hinted at how characters will connect after such a prolonged absence between films. He elaborated:

As a fan, I’m eagerly anticipating the evolution of Ben and Riley’s dynamic in the third movie. I believe this transformation will be particularly gratifying for both actors, given that Riley seems to have undergone a significant shift compared to other characters.

Based on Elliot’s latest unveiling, it looks like what I previously heard from producer Jerry Bruckheimer about the upcoming third movie is spot on. Back in early this year, when I had a chat with him at MovieWeb, he shared some insights that seem to be coming true now.

As a dedicated fan of the National Treasure series, I’ve been eagerly waiting for a potential third installment. We’ve been diligently working on this project for quite some time now. Currently, we have an exceptionally talented writer crafting the script. If things move swiftly with the script development, we’ll submit it to Nic [Cage] for his consideration. If he finds it appealing, we could be in for another thrilling adventure! Fingers crossed!

Fans of the movie “National Treasure” have longed for a new big-screen adventure for 17 years, but in the meantime, they’ve gotten their fix with some treasure-hunting adventures on TV. The Disney+ series, “National Treasure: Edge of History,” debuted in 2022, focusing on Jess (played by Lisette Olivera) as she delves into her family’s enigmatic past. However, the show received negative feedback from both critics and viewers and was discontinued after only one season.

“Agent Suitsy has passed away. In regards to the TV series, I consider it authentic… I’m aiming to introduce a unique twist in the FBI’s portrayal, deviating from the depiction in the previous films. There will still be pursuers and upholders of law, but the manner in which they function is what I’m trying to change subtly.”

It appears that progress on the long-awaited film, “National Treasure 3“, is finally picking up speed. For several years now, there’s been much debate among the original cast members, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, and Nicolas Cage, about their involvement in the movie. However, director Jon Turteltaub recently confirmed that all main actors from “National Treasure 2” will return to wrap up the trilogy.

As of now, there’s no set date for the launch of National Treasure 3. However, you can enjoy the franchise by streaming it on Disney+.
