NBCUniversal Vice Chairman Bonnie Hammer to Exit at End of the Year

As a gamer with a deep appreciation for the history and evolution of media, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and awe at the news of Bonnie Hammer’s departure from NBCUniversal after 35 years. Her contributions to the cable TV industry are nothing short of monumental, transforming it from a fledgling sector into a powerhouse that has captivated audiences worldwide.

It has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that Bonnie Hammer will be leaving NBCUniversal, where she has worked for 35 years.

Currently serving as vice chairman at NBCUniversal, she has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of cable TV throughout her career. She spearheaded networks such as USA and Sci-Fi, as well as Universal Cable Productions. Her influence extended to overseeing the company’s entire cable business, earning her the moniker, “The Queen of Cable.” Additionally, she played a crucial role in conceptualizing and launching Peacock, NBCUniversal’s venture into streaming services.

As we approach the year’s end, I find myself preparing to move on from my role as Vice Chairman – a transition that has been in the works for quite some time, according to reliable sources. In this position, I’ve acted as an internal advisor and consultant to our top executives during a particularly turbulent period for the television industry. It’s important to clarify that this decision is not connected to Comcast’s recent announcement about spinning off most of its cable channels. As a gamer, I’m looking forward to seeing where this new chapter takes me.

In 2020, she was appointed as vice chair amid a significant restructuring of NBCU’s studios team. She is often a prominent figure in Hollywood power circles, featured regularly on lists by The Hollywood Reporter, among others. Additionally, she holds positions on the boards of IAC and eBay.

This year, a book titled “15 Deceits Women are Given in the Workplace … and the Realities Necessary for Success” was published by Hammer, and she recently discussed her professional journey with THR‘s Lacey Rose.

Variety first reported Hammer’s decision to leave the company.
