NCIS Set Up A New Big Bad For Season 22, And Katrina Law Told Us What We Can Expect From This Threat That ‘Has Kicked McGee’s Spidey Senses Off Really Hard’

As a gamer who has binge-watched countless hours of NCIS episodes over the years, I can confidently say that the new villain, Gabriel LaRoche, is shaping up to be one heck of a formidable foe. With his mysterious past and questionable intentions, it’s clear that this character is going to give our beloved agents a run for their money.

Warning: SPOILERS for the NCIS episode “Empty Nest” are ahead!

Katrina Law foresaw that Jessica Knight would remain on NCIS during Season 22. When the premiere, titled “Empty Nest,” was scheduled for 2024, the audience learned the reason behind it. For six months, Knight had been teaching at Camp Pendleton as a chief REACT instructor. However, the opening case of this season made Knight reconsider her job, leading to her decision to go back to the Washington D.C. squad. Unfortunately, her return coincides with a new danger, as there seems to be something fishy about Seamus Dever’s character, Gabriel LaRoche. Law hinted at the nature of this new antagonist, stating that he has triggered “McGee’s Spidey senses hard,” offering a glimpse into what fans can anticipate from this ominous figure.

In the role previously sought by Timothy McGee on NCIS, Katrina Law’s character, LaRoche, was recently appointed as Deputy Director. This surprising development unfolded shortly after McGee began noticing some suspicious activities connected to LaRoche in relation to this episode’s case. Prior to the start of NCIS Season 22, I had the opportunity to chat with Katrina Law, and here’s what she hinted about LaRoche:

This newcomer to the NCIS team has set off alarm bells for McGee, who typically trusts his intuition. Given McGee’s track record of accuracy, it seems unlikely that he’s mistaken this time. I’m not sure how, but I believe this individual is going to create problems for us before we can effectively deal with him. It’s unfortunate, as having a traitor or someone harmful within the team isn’t what we want, and we will do everything in our power to remove them from our ranks.

Gabriel LaRoche entered the situation after McGee requested Department of Justice files about the Nexus drug cartel and its chief, El Padre, to assist NCIS in locating missing agent Nick Torres, who had gone undercover with the cartel. Interestingly, LaRoche appeared hesitant to share this information, but eventually complied. The situation took a strange turn when McGee informed Torres and Alden Parker that although Celia Torres, the attorney secretly working for El Padre, confessed to leaking REACT intel, she never admitted to revealing Nick Torres’ undercover identity.

Although we can’t confirm beyond doubt who committed the act, McGee suspects that since only a few people at NCIS were aware of Torres being undercover with Nexus and apart from those individuals, only LaRoche knew this fact. This implies that the mole within NCIS might be LaRoche, making it challenging for McGee, Parker, Torres, and Knight to investigate him and present their findings to Director Vance. However, we can expect our heroes to prevail in the end, but as Katrina Law mentioned, LaRoche won’t make things easy for them.

Fresh installments of “NCIS” are broadcast every Monday at 9 pm Eastern Time on CBS. If you have a Paramount+ subscription, you can stream the premiere episode of Season 22, and also catch the dual debut of the prequel “NCIS: Origins”, as well as all other shows in this long-running procedural series.
