As a seasoned gamer who has navigated countless virtual worlds, I can confidently say that the gaming experience I get from following the latest movie news is nothing short of exhilarating. The announcement about Neon acquiring the rights to Chloe Okuno’s horror flick, “Brides,” featuring Maika Monroe, has sent my anticipation levels skyrocketing!
Neon has acquired the rights for North America for Chloe Okuno’s horror film titled “Brides,” scheduled to begin filming in March 2025, with Maika Monroe as its lead actress.
The project represents the third time Neon and Monroe have worked together, following Osgood Perkins’ “Longlegs” and the upcoming film “They Follow,” a sequel to David Robert Mitchell’s “It Follows.” Currently, pre-production for the film titled “Brides” is in progress, with Neon intending to showcase it in cinemas.
The movie titled “Longlegs” raked in a staggering $75 million at the box office, setting it as the top-earning independent film of the year. This remarkable achievement serves as a triumph for Neon, the award-winning production and distribution company run by Tom Quinn, which has previously housed the critically acclaimed “Parasite” in its portfolio.
In a movie titled Brides, Longlegs witnessed Nicholas Cage portray an elusive serial killer, pursued by FBI Agent Lee Harker (Monroe). Remarkably, Cage’s transformation for the film was so dramatic, it was hard to recognize him. This project will be brought to life by producers Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu through Likely Story.
Originally, Okuno crafted the screenplay that features Monroe portraying Sally Bishop. In this storyline, Sally and her spouse journey to an isolated Italian villa owned by a cryptic count who exhibits an unusual fascination with Sally.
The agreement regarding the film “Brides” was finalized by Jeff Deutchman and Jason Wald from Neon. International sales for this film were introduced during the American Film Market (AFM) in Las Vegas a month ago, by FilmNation Entertainment. The Universal Talent Agency Independent Film Group is responsible for managing global and domestic rights to this movie.
Elsewhere, Osgood Perkins is reuniting with Neon, C2 and Black Bear for his next film, the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, starring Theo James and set to be released in February 2025.
