Netflix Greenlights Animated 'Ghostbusters' Series

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for all things paranormal, I can hardly contain my excitement over Netflix’s upcoming animated Ghostbusters series! Growing up with the original 80s show and the subsequent Extreme Ghostbusters, I’ve spent countless hours battling spectral foes, and now it seems that my ghost-hunting days are far from over.

An animated Ghostbusters series is officially in the works over at Netflix.

Two years following its initial unveiling, Variety shares that the 3D project aligns tonally with recent Ghostbusters movies. Elliott Kalan has been brought on board as a writer, and will also serve as an executive producer alongside Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, who wrote and directed Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Frozen Empire respectively. Further details such as the cast and plot specifics have yet to be disclosed.

The new animated show is the third one within the franchise, succeeding “The Real Ghostbusters” from the mid-’80s to early ’90s, and “Extreme Ghostbusters” which debuted in 1997.

In the newest installment of the series titled “Frozen Empire,” we see Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, and Logan Kim take center stage. Notably, the original cast members such as Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton returned to reprise their roles. The film garnered moderate reviews but managed to earn a substantial sum of $201.9 million USD at the worldwide box office.

Stay tuned for an official trailer and release date.
