As a dedicated fan who’s spent countless hours watching and laughing along with Hot Ones, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the potential move of this spicy-winged talk show to Netflix! Sean Evans has masterfully turned the art of interviewing into an entertaining spectacle that’s as addictive as the wings themselves.
Netflix wants to heat up its live programming slate with a red-hot talk show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, there are negotiations underway for the large streaming platform to acquire certain live versions of the widely-popular YouTube chat series, Hot Ones.
Every week, I step up to the challenge on Sean Evans’ hot-wing show, co-produced by BuzzFeed’s First We Feast. It’s all about facing off against a famous guest while tackling progressively spicier chicken wings – each one more fiery than the last!
If everything goes according to plan, Evans will be hosting special live editions of the show, only on Netflix, as initially reported by Bloomberg.
Hot Ones has grown into a renowned talk show, frequently attracting millions of views on YouTube. The show now boasts high-profile guests in its lineup and even made a bid for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, hosting For Your Consideration events. Unfortunately, it did not receive a nomination in the end.
Evans shared with THR in June that he considers himself a traditionalist, explaining, “I was raised on Late Night with David Letterman, The Tonight Show Starring Conan O’Brien, and Jimmy Kimmel Live. To challenge such established institutions, I believe, is the most significant difference we’ve ever had.
For quite some time now, the program has been available on YouTube, but it’s only recently gained significant momentum, becoming an essential destination for actors promoting their movies or TV series. A popular episode this year starring Conan O’Brien, a former late-night host, even went viral due to his extravagant method of handling the wings he was eating.
Netflix would significantly enhance its live event collection, adding to it the NFL this year and WWE next year, not just that, but also offering another talk show style, capitalizing on the success of John Mulaney’s Everybody’s in LA earlier this year.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but notice the buzz surrounding the future of First We Feat, given recent speculations about its sale. Despite the array of shows they produce, it’s clear that Hot Ones stands out as their crown jewel and most flourishing brand.
