As a devoted fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! Finally, after a five-year wait, Netflix is moving forward with a live-action adaptation of the iconic Assassin’s Creed gaming franchise. This news has sent shivers of anticipation down my spine!
Assassin’s Creed” is a pulse-pounding tale that revolves around a clandestine conflict between two mysterious organizations: one aiming to decide mankind’s fate by controlling and manipulating, while the other defends free will. The narrative journeys through significant historical periods, as characters engage in an epic struggle to influence human history. As of now, the cast list has not been revealed.
Roberto Patino and David Wiener, who were Emmy nominees, will take on the roles of creators, managers, and executive producers for the upcoming show. They expressed their enthusiasm and awe in a joint statement, stating, “We have been enthusiasts of Assassin’s Creed since its debut in 2007. Each day we work on this project leaves us excited and humbled by the stories and themes that Assassin’s Creed offers.” They further explained, “Beyond the action, adventure, and parkour lies a fundamental human story – one about individuals seeking purpose, grappling with questions of identity, destiny, and faith. It is a tale of power, violence, love, greed, and vengeance.
Primarily, this production emphasizes the importance of human relationships, transcending cultural barriers and spanning through different eras. It also highlights the devastating consequences when these connections are severed. With Ubisoft’s brilliant team and our allies at Netflix, we’re dedicated to crafting an unforgettable experience for audiences worldwide,” they elaborate.
Initially, when we unveiled our partnership with Ubisoft in 2020, our aim was lofty – to breathe life into the extensive universe of Assassin’s Creed in innovative ways, stated Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s Vice President for Scripted Series. Now, following years of diligent collaboration, it’s awe-inspiring to witness how much that vision has progressed. Under the skillful direction of Roberto Patino and David Wiener, the team has painstakingly created an epic journey that not only preserves the legacy of the Assassin’s Creed franchise but also invites both devoted fans and newcomers to immerse themselves in the Brotherhood’s thrill like never before.
In addition to Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, the team from Ubisoft Film & Television, and Matt O’Toole will serve as co-producers.
Boykin, as executive producer and head of content at Ubisoft Film & Television, expressed great enthusiasm about collaborating with Roberto, David, and our Netflix partners. Our goal is to transform the cherished ‘Assassin’s Creed’ franchise into a series, aiming to capture what fans adore while also making its captivating worlds and enduring themes accessible to global viewers for the first time.
