Last month, Cillian Murphy reprised his role as Birmingham gangster boss Tommy Shelby for the film adaptation of the hit series produced by Steven Knight. This week, Netflix teased a sneak peek at Barry Keoghan’s appearance in the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie!
The movie continues the storyline from a popular six-season TV show that was released on a streaming service and garnered much praise from critics, featuring Oscar winner Murphy along with Paul Anderson, Helen McCrory, Tom Hardy, and Joe Cole as main characters. At The Royal Television Society’s convention in London last September, Knight revealed that both Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan have been cast for an upcoming project. He remained cryptic about the details of the project but hinted to the audience that it is set during World War II and promises to be exceptional.
The show reached its peak in season six, which aired in 2022. Not long after, Murphy gained significant acclaim by starring in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” earning an Academy Award. In recent times, Keoghan has experienced a meteoric rise to stardom due to roles in “The Batman,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” and “Saltburn.” Regrettably, he had to withdraw from the much-anticipated “Gladiator II” set for release this month.
Tom Harper, who was responsible for directing episodes during the initial season of the show, takes up the director’s role again. Additionally, he works in a supervisory position, sharing this responsibility with David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason, all serving as executive producers.
When the director first took on directing “Peaky Blinders” more than a decade ago, we hadn’t anticipated the show’s eventual success, but we were certain that there was an electric chemistry between our talented cast and compelling writing that felt like it could ignite something special.
It’s truly thrilling to be rejoining Steve and Cillian again as we work together to share the Peaky Blinders story, which has always been centered around family, with viewers worldwide on Netflix.
