If we look back at historical animation, such as Betty Boop, or classic princess movies, which I enjoy, we can see that times were different. As a passionate fan of the latest animated adventure, I’m thrilled to share that in this captivating new story, it falls upon Sandy Cheeks to shield the cherished inhabitants of Bikini Bottom from harm. These blameless creatures have unfortunately been imprisoned in a Texas lab. The primary villain behind this nefarious scheme is Sue Nahmee, brilliantly portrayed by the hilarious Wanda Sykes. Nahmee harbors an entrepreneurial spirit and has grand plans to metamorphose the Bikini Bottom residents into Sea Pals – an irresistible line of adorable sea creature toys, mass-produced for commercial gain. This journey back to Texas offers a rare glimpse into Sandy’s origins, introducing us to her quirky rodent family. Their endearing personalities are so rich that they could potentially headline their very own captivating spinoff.
Craig Robinson’s character, Pa Cheeks, will be introduced into the animated cast as the patriarch of the squirrel family named Cheeks. Joining him are Randy Cheeks, played by Johnny Knoxville, Sandy’s brother known for his mustache and daredevil antics. Completing the family are Ma Cheeks, Granny Cheeks, Rowdy, and Rosie Cheeks. Grey DeLisle will lend her voice to all four characters. Known for her extensive work in Nickelodeon productions, including voicing Vicky from “The Fairly OddParents” for over a decade, DeLisle brings the Cheeks family to life. It was an absolute thrill to collaborate with the animation team in creating these new characters, and then to bring them to life with the superb acting talents we recruited. I was particularly elated when Craig Robinson came on board. Our paths crossed while working together on What We Do in the Shadows, and I was captivated by his infectious enthusiasm. He would frequently burst into song during downtime on set, adding an unexpected layer of joy to our production. With his ability to infuse warmth into a character, Craig proved to be an ideal choice for portraying Pa Cheeks.
The SpongeBob Universe Continues Expanding With New Movies Adding to an Already Impressive Franchise
SpongeBob SquarePants, a beloved Nickelodeon character, holds the title of Nickelodeon’s equivalent to Mickey Mouse. With nearly a quarter-century of existence, it is Nicktoon’s longest-running series, debuting in 1991 when Nickelodeon initiated its own animation line. SpongeBob has graced the big screen on numerous occasions, featuring in three films: “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie” (2004), “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” (2015), and “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” (2021). A fourth theatrical release, titled “Search for SquarePants,” is scheduled for 2025.
