Netflix Sci-fi horror Sequel The Platform 2 Tops Global Chart

As a die-hard fan of dystopian thrillers and someone who has survived countless viewings of “The Hunger Games,” “Divergent,” and the original “The Platform,” I must say, the sequel, “The Platform 2” has been a long-awaited feast for my eyes. The critics may be divided, but to me, it’s a veritable smorgasbord of suspense, intrigue, and thought-provoking themes.

The highly anticipated follow-up to the popular dystopian thriller The Platform, fittingly called , has been released and has swiftly climbed to the top of international streaming rankings (via FlixPatrol). Though viewers seem eager for another helping of this Spanish science fiction horror show, the critical reception has been somewhat harsh, as The Platform 2 currently holds a contentious 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with only 25% approval from audiences on the “Popcornmeter.

Critics are expressing their opinions about our reinstatement of the “Vertical Self-Management Center” prison, a harsh system where food is distributed from higher levels to lower ones. A word of advice, you wouldn’t want to be at the bottom. Robert Daniels from RogerEbert.com rated the sequel only 1.5 out of 4, questioning why another installment was even produced.

In the opening 30 minutes of “The Platform 2” directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, I can’t help but feel that my decision to revisit this world was, in fact, a regrettable mistake.

David Ehrlich from IndieWire gave the movie The Platform 2 a (fair) grade of C+. To give some context, the initial film has an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Ehrlich describing the sequel as “uninteresting and madly chaotic.

The lower level (Platform 2) is filled with a monotonous mix of color filters, religious symbols, and puzzling references that echo earlier parts, yet none of these elements manage to hold a candle to the initial intrigue of the storyline they seem to be weakening.

Following that, we hear from Jesse Hassenger of The Guardian, who awarded only 2 out of 5 stars to The Platform 2, stating that the sequel fell short in expanding upon its original concept.

It appears Gaztelu-Urrutia is viewing his own idea as an endless feast, constantly grabbing as much as he can, knowing it could be taken away at any instant.

Absolutely, a score of 50% suggests that not all reviewers were enamored with it, but there are certainly some who appreciated it. For instance, Witney Seibold from Slashfilm praised the sequel for giving it a more “intimate” or “personally engaging” feel.

While ‘Platform 2’ doesn’t delve deeper into the social and economic issues of its predecessor like class and unfair distribution of resources, it does share those themes in a more intimate and personal narrative instead.

Marco Vito Oddo from We Got This Covered discovered plenty of things he appreciated in this expansion of the captivating and distinctive dystopian idea.

In a new take, “‘The Platform 2′” delves back into the dark depiction of humanity found in ‘The Pit’, but this time through religious symbolism rather than economic themes. Compared to its predecessor, the sequel heightens its enigmatic storyline, creating a more immersive and thought-provoking experience for viewers.

In the director’s chair once more for the sequel is Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia. This new installment introduces a fresh group of hapless individuals, portrayed by Milena Smit (from “The Snow Girl”), Hovik Keuchkerian (“Money Heist”), Natalia Tena (“Game of Thrones”), and Óscar Jaenada (“Luis Miguel: The Series”). These unfortunates find themselves in a predicament, under the control of the ominous titular platform. For more details, you can read the official synopsis provided below.
