I’ve been thrilled as a supporter, as Netflix recently unveiled an AI-crafted image featuring Millie Bobby Brown, our beloved Eleven from “Stranger Things,” as part of the viral buzz for Season 5. It’s been nearly three years since we’ve eagerly anticipated the final season, and finally, in 2025, it’ll be here! Surprisingly though, Netflix hasn’t ramped up marketing efforts just yet, leaving us fans yearning for official images or a trailer to quench our thirst for more “Stranger Things” excitement as the premiere date approaches.
As a movie aficionado, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be stepping back into the spotlight alongside an iconic cast from Netflix’s Stranger Things Season 1. This includes Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, and Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, among others. Can’t wait to dive back into the Upside Down with these exceptional talents!
On May 4th, Netflix posted an AI-generated image on their South African Instagram page, depicting Eleven actress Milly Bobby Brown seemingly watching “Stranger Things”. This picture was inspired by the ’90s and sparked a trend that soon faced heavy criticism from fans due to its quick release by Netflix.
The Instagram post mentioned a feeling of nostalgia reminiscent of “Stranger Things” and announced, with anticipation, that the initial trailer for Season 5 is set to premiere on Saturday, May 31, likely during Netflix’s yearly Tudum celebration.
Netflix is jumping on board with the popular internet craze where fictional characters like James Bond are depicted playing video games based on themselves, in a vintage television format with a nostalgic look.
The broadcaster is preparing to unveil Stranger Things Season 5, along with four other original shows from Netflix, later this year, following a three-year wait for fans. At present, there’s no official release date; however, it’s widely anticipated that the show will make its debut in fall 2025.
Why Netflix’s AI Usage Could Be a Dangerous PrecidentÂ
As AI technology advances and becomes more capable of generating realistic visuals, debates about its use have intensified. One notable instance of this controversy arises when powerful studios, such as Marvel Studios, employ questionable technology in their productions. In a striking example, they utilized AI to produce the entire intro for Secret Invasion.
Given that the AI-generated image surfaced exclusively on a global Netflix account and was swiftly removed following criticism, it seems plausible that this wasn’t intentionally included in the Season 5 promotional plan, but rather a spontaneous action by their social media team.
Despite the rising trend, the expanded employment of generative AI could potentially displace skilled creatives from their jobs as studios seek to reduce expenses. Fervent supporters can merely cross their fingers that this will prove an isolated incident and AI won’t become a component of Stranger Things 5’s promotional strategies in the future.
In a matter of few weeks, we’re anticipating the arrival of the first sneak peek for Stranger Things 5, marking the start of a year-long promotional ride. This highly anticipated release date could very well be revealed in the teaser trailer scheduled for May 31.
