As a dedicated gamer and avid consumer of both comedy and horror media, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming collaboration between director Paul Feig and Blumhouse for the film adaptation of Netflix’s “Worst Roommate Ever.” Having grown up watching classic horror films like “The Exorcist” and “Jaws,” while also enjoying comedies such as “Anchorman” and “Superbad,” this project perfectly blends my two favorite genres.

Paul Feig, known for helming comedies such as “Bridesmaids,” “A Simple Favor,” and the 2016 “Ghostbusters” reboot, has joined forces with Blumhouse Productions to create a movie adaptation of “Worst Roommate Ever.” The same Blumhouse that brought us hits like “Paranormal Activity,” “Unfriended,” “Get Out,” “Halloween,” and “The Black Phone,” is combining forces with a comedy director for this project. While Feig’s knack for comedy and Blum’s horror production skills may appear to be an unusual duo, they have reportedly been trying to make this collaboration a reality for quite some time.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the story revolves around a recently single woman who decides to monetize her large house with an extra room by renting it out. After locating an ideal tenant, she goes through the necessary background checks only to discover later that he’s a persistent squatter and refuses to vacate the premises despite her efforts. According to Feig, this forms the crux of the plot.

For decades, Jason and I have been searching for an ideal collaboration project, and this tale seems perfectly suited to provide the chills, excitement, poignancy, and humor that both of us enjoy terrifying and amusing audiences with.

In other words, I couldn’t be happier to have Jason as the best roommate ever for this film.

I’m thrilled to share that director Feig is currently juggling two exciting projects. He’s working on the action-comedy “Jackpot” featuring Awkwafina and John Cena, while wrapping up post-production for “A Simple Favor 2.” Based on recent reports, his next venture will likely be a collaboration with Blumhouse.

Paul is ideally suited for this role as his creations consistently straddle the line between darkness and light, leaving me eagerly anticipating the unique perspective he will add to this narrative.

Netflix’s “Worst Roommate Ever,” overseen by Blum through Blumhouse Television, has been on air for two seasons with a grand total of nine episodes. Surprisingly, this seemingly small production has left a lasting impression on viewers, instilling fear into their hearts at the thought of a roommate harboring criminal tendencies. The show’s authentic horror resonates deeply, likely contributing to its widespread appeal and success.

The unscripted show brings together real-life witness accounts with animated retellings of various cases, ranging from oddly amusing to unsettling. This program is inspired by a 2018 New York Magazine article penned by William Brennan, who will also produce the upcoming film based on this topic. However, it remains undecided whether the film will be based specifically on the Jamison Bachman case or merely draw inspiration from the show’s overall theme.
