As a gamer with a keen interest in both wrestling and documentaries, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Netflix series, Mr. McMahon. Having grown up watching WWE and being captivated by Vince’s larger-than-life persona, it’s fascinating to delve deeper into his life story, especially given the recent developments.
Netflix unveiled a trailer for its documentary series centered around Vince McMahon, one of the co-founders of WWE. Dubbed “Mr. McMahon,” this series follows McMahon’s journey in establishing his company as the dominant force within the wrestling industry. However, McMahon resigned from his position in 2022 after allegations surfaced that he paid off former employees with whom he had extramarital affairs to keep their relationships confidential.
The next year saw his comeback as executive chairman at WWE, a position he continued to hold when WWE combined with UFC to establish TKO Group Holdings (TKO). However, earlier this year, McMahon stepped down again following the FBI’s investigation into him, which was triggered by allegations of sexual trafficking from another ex-WWE employee.
Mr. McMahon’s content was assembled from approximately 200 hours of recordings with him before his resignation, including contributions from some of his family members and business partners. Additionally, pro wrestlers like John Cena and Dwayne Johnson provide commentary.
McMahon states in the trailer, “In our line of work, the boundaries between reality and illusion become incredibly vague, causing people to lose sight of their true identities.”
Bill Simmons is responsible for directing the six-episode series titled Mr. McMahon, which will debut on Netflix on September 25th.
