Netflix’s ‘Mr. McMahon’ Trailer Explores the Blurred Lines of Reality Behind the Wrestling Mogul

As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the world of wrestling, I can’t help but feel like I’ve just stumbled upon the latest blockbuster DLC for my favorite game – WWE: The Show Behind the Curtain.

Is Vince McMahon the person recognized on screen as the WWE’s antagonist “Mr. McMahon”? Known also as a self-made tycoon in the media industry and a billionaire? Yet, does he conceal something ominous beneath his public persona?

Netflix‘s upcoming documentary series Mr. McMahon appears set to explore all of those facets.

According to Paul “Triple H” Levesque, a previous pro-wrestler and current WWE’s Chief Content Officer, when talking about Vince, much of it revolves around his character. He will present the aspects he desires for you to perceive

According to McMahon himself, in our profession, the boundaries between reality and illusion become quite hazy, causing people to lose track of their true identity

As I delved into the six-episode series titled “Mr. McMahon,” I found myself immersed in the captivating tale of Vince McMahon, a contentious entrepreneur and co-founder of WWE, as depicted by Netflix’s synopsis. The narrative traces his journey from turning the WWE from a humble, regional venture into a formidable global entertainment empire, all the way to the shocking sexual misconduct accusations that ultimately forced him to step down

Bill Simmons, Zara Duffy, and Chris Smith serve as executive producers for a series produced by Library Films, in collaboration with Ringer Films

Smith, who also directed Netflix’s Tiger King, served as director of the series.

McMahon, indeed, transformed his father’s local wrestling league into a dominating force in entertainment. However, he’s no stranger to controversy, well-documentedited controversies, ranging from accusations overuse of steroid use of suspected drug enhancement drugs like steroids (a matter we’ll delve deeper into in the series) and the scandalous claims of sexual misconduct that eventually led to his stepping down this year

The docuseries was originally developed with his support, and it includes interviews with him before the allegations that led to his exit. It includes interviews with current and former superstars like Levesque, John Cena, Hulk Hogan and Dwayne Johnson, who joined the board of directors of the WWE’s parent company the same week that the allegations were revealed.

It also includes interviews with journalists who helped uncover the allegations.

I’m excitedly counting down the days until my favorite docuseries premieres, as it coincides with Netflix securing a massive $5 billion content deal to host WWE Raw just months later. As a gamer, it feels like an epic plot twist unfolding behind the scenes!

Mr. McMahon debuts on Netflix Sept. 25.
