As a seasoned television connoisseur who’s been through countless hours of binge-watching, I must say that the upcoming slate of TV shows for Season 2 of Form’s Race is quite intriguing! From the gripping drama of “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” to the laugh-out-loud humor of “Will & Harper,” there’s something for everyone.
A big screen adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s dystopian sci-fi novel Uglies, Emily In Paris becoming Emily in Rome, Jeremy Saulnier’s latest genre piece, the latest installment of Ryan Murphy’s grisly crime anthology series, Carrie Coon, Elizabeth Olsen and Natasha Lyonne playing sisters in a critically acclaimed family drama and rom-com series toplined by the charming coupling of Kristen Bell and Adam Brody are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in September.
Renowned director Jeremy Saulnier unveils his newest production, titled “Rebel Ridge“, on Netflix starting September 6. This high-octane movie features Aaron Pierre, a rising British talent, as a man who travels to a secluded town to help his cousin financially, only to have his funds confiscated by a corrupt police force under the command of Chief Sandy Burnne (Don Johnson). With no other choice, he must employ his abilities to reclaim the money and seek retribution. Saulnier is known for his exceptional work in genre films, with notable projects such as the critically acclaimed horror-comedy “Murder Party” (2007), the engaging revenge thriller “Blue Ruin” (2013), the gripping horror movie “Green Room” (2015) and the Netflix action-thriller “Hold the Dark” (2018).
Beginning September 19th, the newest addition to Ryan Murphy’s crime series anthology Monsters, titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story, will premiere on Netflix. This latest production offers a gripping, dramatic retelling of the chilling murder case and sensational trial that captivated America throughout the 1990s. In this series, Cooper Koch portrays Erik while Nicholas Chavez takes on the role of Lyle. Notably, Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny will depict the brothers’ parents, José and Kitty. The first season of Monsters, namely Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, received widespread acclaim and garnered six Emmy nominations.
On September 20th, Azazel Jacobs’ film “His Three Daughters” will be released. This emotional drama brings together Carrie Coon, Elizabeth Olsen, and Natasha Lyonne who portray sisters returning to their New York City childhood apartment to help care for their ailing father during his last days of home hospice care. The movie made its premiere at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival, receiving widespread critical acclaim. Currently, it boasts a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes (from 26 reviews), an 80/100 on Metacritic (based on 7 reviews), and a 3.7 rating on Letterboxd.
September 26th marks the premiere of Netflix’s romantic comedy series, titled “Nobody Wants This.” In this new production by 20th Television and Steven Levitan Productions (known for creating shows like Modern Family and Reboot), Kristen Bell plays the role of an agnostic podcast host, while Adam Brody takes on the character of a rabbi. Their paths cross unexpectedly at a party.
New additions to Netflix in September encompass a variety of films such as Edge of Tomorrow, Black Mass, American Gangster, 300, Along Came Polly, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, The Expendables 1 through 3, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Field of Dreams, Jaws 1 to 3, Legends of the Fall, Magic Mike, Midnight Run, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 1 and 2, Shark Tale, Sonic the Hedgehog, Stand by Me, and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
