As a self-proclaimed anime enthusiast and lifelong pirate aficionado, I must say that the casting announcements for Netflix’s “One Piece” have me walking the plank with excitement! Having grown up on this manga series and its iconic characters, seeing familiar faces like Matt Frewer as Crocodile is a treasure trove of nostalgia.
In simple terms, Monkey D. Luffy and his band of misfits are back on their journey, making a splash at Netflix Geeked Week. The streaming service has disclosed significant casting updates, unveiling that Channing Tatum, famous for Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Magic Mike, will portray the beloved antagonist. This character is none other than Crocodile, also known as “Mr. O,” who serves as the main enemy of the Straw Hat Pirates during the “Alabasta Arc.” Given his role in this storyline, Tatum’s character will undoubtedly play a significant part in the upcoming second series, generating much excitement among fans.
Notable additions to the cast for One Piece Season 2 include Lera Abova playing Nico Robin, Charithra Chandran taking on Miss Wednesday, Sendhil Ramamurthy portraying Nefertari Cobra, Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiriluk, Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, Jazzara Jaslyn for Miss Valentine, and David Dastmalchian assuming the role of Mr. 3.
According to the manga titled “One Piece” by Eiichiro Oda, the story revolves around the escapades of the pirate crew known as the Straw Hat Pirates. Equipped with unique abilities, unyielding camaraderie, and a rubber-like physique, the Straw Hats brace themselves for their adventure and are determined to defend their shared dreams together.

One Piece Has Been a Huge Hit for Netflix
Initially, fans had their reservations about the live-action version of One Piece, but the first season turned out to be a massive success, winning over both critics and viewers. As Matthew Mahler from MovieWeb pointed out, one of the standout aspects was the exceptional casting for the series. The young actor Iñaki Godoy Jasso embodies the role of Monkey D. Luffy, our main character, remarkably well. He manages to convey Luffy’s endless curiosity, infectious enthusiasm, and unyielding optimism, while also adding a suitable competitive edge and touch of naivety to the character.
