2021 brought forth a barrage of highly successful and well-received action films such as the edgy crime drama “Rebel Ridge”, the violent and vengeful saga “The Shadow Strays”, and the festive action flick “Carry-On”. It appears that this trend will carry on, with the impending action thriller “Ad Vitam” poised to follow suit, potentially becoming the next big thing like the Liam Neeson movie that launched his career as an action hero in the twilight of his years.
Under the direction of Rodolphe Lauga, the French action thriller titled “Ad Vitam” introduces us to Franck, a man with a secretive background (it’s revealed later that he was once an elite agent), who endures a home invasion and is compelled to rescue his abducted wife. As he navigates through the lethal repercussions of his tormented past, the story also features Stéphane Caillard, Nassim Lyes, Zita Hanrot, Alexis Manenti, Johan Heldenbergh, Etienne Guillou-Kervern, and Rayan Bouazza. The film will be available on Netflix starting January 10; for more details, you can read the official synopsis provided below.
Following his narrow survival from an assassination attempt, Franck Lazarev embarks on a desperate mission to locate his wife Léo, who has fallen victim to an enigmatic gang of armed assailants. His past as a former operative with the French Elite Intervention Unit (GIGN) resurfaces, and he is unwillingly drawn into a covert government matter that exceeds his influence.
Will ‘Ad Vitam’ Be the Latest Netflix Action Hit?
In a nutshell, the series “Ad Vitam” seems to offer something for all viewers, blending rapid-fire action with espionage, enigma, and domestic drama. The lead actor, Guillaume Canet, renowned for his work in films like “Love Me If You Dare,” “Tell No One,” and last year’s “The Flood,” appears set to deliver a riveting action performance. “Ad Vitam” promises the classic anti-hero with a unique skillset that fans of the genre have come to appreciate.
2022 looks set to deliver a variety of high-octane action movies for viewers. Upcoming releases such as “A Working Man” with Jason Statham, directed by David Ayer who previously worked with him on “The Beekeeper”, and “Nobody 2” featuring Bob Odenkirk reprising his role from the first installment, are among them. Additionally, there’s “Novocaine”, starring Jack Quaid from “The Boys”, where his character’s inability to feel pain will prove useful when his girlfriend is kidnapped. Similar to “John Wick” is “Fateh”. “Love Hurts” stars Ke Huy Quan, an Oscar-winner known for his recent role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once”. Lastly, “The Accountant 2” marks the return of Ben Affleck as the accountant-turned-assassin Christian Wolff in the long-awaited sequel.
Besides not even bringing up the upcoming blockbusters based on comics like “Captain America: New World Order”, “Thunderbolts”, and a new “Superman” movie, this year will also bring back several beloved franchises such as “Avatar: Fire and Smoke”, “Mission: Impossible – The Last Judgment”, “Jurassic World: Renewal”, and “Tron: Ares”.
Once again, Ad Vitam is due to debut on Netflix on January 10, 2025.
