Neve Campbell Explains Why Scream 7’s Filming Was Delayed

As a dedicated fan of the “Scream” franchise for over two decades, I’m thrilled to hear that Neve Campbell will be reprising her iconic role as Sidney Prescott in “Scream 7.” I can still remember the first time I watched the original film back in the ’90s and how it left me on the edge of my seat. Sidney’s resilience and determination have always been an inspiration to me, and I’m excited to see her back in action.

Neve Campbell’s character Sidney Prescott, portrayed by her in the ’90s “Scream” series, remains the quintessential final girl. With her inclusion in “Scream 7,” she’s poised to make a strong case for best final girl of the 2020s. Officially confirmed since March, Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney under director Kevin Williamson’s guidance. However, production hasn’t begun just yet due to an unspecified reason, as recently disclosed by Campbell herself.

Previously reported production start date for “Scream 7” in September has been changed. Neve Campbell shares with Indiewire the reason behind this new development.

We were supposed to start in September, but we’re going to start in December now because of some scheduling stuff with Kevin and myself and having that all aligned. And actually, I think it’s a good thing, because we’re going to be able to have the time to get it really right. So I’m very excited about it.

As a long-time fan of the “Scream” franchise, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the developments surrounding the production of “Scream 7.” And boy, has it been a rollercoaster ride!

The Carpenter sisters’ predicament in “Scream 7” was part of a series of unfortunate events for us. However, things have improved since then as Neve Campbell, the beloved star of “Scream,” has joined the project. Previously, Campbell had declined to participate in the sixth “Scream” installment due to salary disputes. As a result, Sidney Prescott is expected to take the spotlight once again for the upcoming sequel. Furthermore, there are whispers that Courteney Cox’s character, Gale Weathers, might make a comeback as well.

The upcoming film “Scream 7” is being helmed by the original screenwriter of the first “Scream” movie, with a story contributed by Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt, who have penned the last two installments in the series. Despite another postponement of the project, Neve Campbell views this as a positive development, allowing the team more time to finesse the script and production before filming begins.

The thrilling film production is predicted to last for two months, therefore, around early 2025, the movie might be completed and potentially premiering in cinemas during the Halloween season of 2025 or perhaps in 2026. Paramount has yet to announce an official release date for “Scream 7,” but keep an eye on TopMob for updates on other upcoming horror films in the meantime.
