As someone who has grown up with Disney’s Moana as a guiding light, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation about the upcoming sequel. Three years have passed since our brave heroine saved the world, and now she has a little sister to protect. If that wasn’t enough, a new villain, Nalo, the god of storms, looms on the horizon, promising to be more fearsome than anything Moana has ever encountered.
In just two months, we’ll see the next chapter of Disney’s “Moana” unfold, and it looks like our heroine is in for a rough time ahead! Three years have passed since the first movie, and Moana’s life has taken some surprising turns. Most notably, she now has a little sister who will be an important part of this new adventure. Additionally, we can expect to see more of Moana’s relationship with Maui, but recent updates on the sequel hint that danger is looming once again.
Based on Entertainment Weekly reports, the upcoming villain, Nalo, is a deity of tempests, renowned for being “scarier and stronger than any challenge Moana has previously faced.” This time, Moana will embark on a new journey, buoyed by her community’s support as she confronts this fresh danger. In a statement about the impending conflict between Moana and Maui, Disney Animation’s Chief Creative Officer, Jennifer Lee, highlighted:
Nalo understands that human power is nothing less formidable. United, they possess capabilities beyond measure, effectively shaping the world to their will.
So far, we don’t know any extra facts about Nalo. But, it’s interesting to note that apart from Nalo, various other characters are being highlighted in the upcoming movie as well.
Moana 2 Brings a New Dynamic with Moana’s Little Sister
As a movie enthusiast penning my thoughts on the upcoming sequel, let me share that unlike the original film which centered around Moana and Maui with the amusing antics of Hei Hei, Moana 2 introduces Moana’s sister into the narrative, adding an entirely fresh dimension to the tale. During a recent interview, the star of Moana 2, Aulii’i Cravalho, hinted at how her new-found sibling influences her character’s journey.
Now she has a younger sibling, which brings Moana back to her hometown. Moana is currently exploring uncharted seas and aiming to unite everyone in the Pacific region.
In addition to her younger sibling, viewers will meet other crew members on board for Moana’s newest journey. Accompanying Moana are Moni (Hualālai Chung), Kele (David Fane), and Loto (Rose Matafeo). These characters were originally developed for a TV series in production for Disney+. Due to the transition from the TV series concept to a full-length movie, these new characters had their roles scaled back, resulting in reduced focus and screen time.
In the upcoming movie, both Moana and Maui will find themselves facing unfamiliar faces, as Maui is set to meet someone from his past – Matangi (Awhimai Fraser). This encounter could potentially be linked to Maui’s controversial past.
