For quite some time now, “Friday the 13th” hasn’t caused a stir in films or video games. However, after a prolonged silence, a fresh installment seems to be emerging from the darkness.
It’s been announced by Horror Inc. that they are indeed working on a fresh Friday the 13th video game!
At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, a significant announcement was made, however, due to the scant details provided, enthusiasts are cautiously optimistic for now.
What Is the Jason Universe and Who’s Behind It?
“Horror Inc.’s newest expansion of their franchise is called the Jason Universe, and this venture falls under that umbrella.”
This includes figures, short content, and now, a long-anticipated sequel game.
As per Robbie Barsamian, Vice President at Horror Inc., creating a fresh game and film are of utmost importance for their team, says Robbie.
He revealed they can now start working simultaneously on both projects, but official announcements and final agreements have yet to be made.
It’s the first time in years that Friday the 13th fans have had a reason to be excited.
What Happened to the Last Game?
On Friday the 13th: The Game, it gained recognition through its unique horror gameplay structure, where one participant assumed the role of the hunter, Jason, while the rest aimed to evade and survive.
Initially, it garnered a devoted fan base, yet disputes about ownership rights to the franchise hindered its expansion.
By the year 2023, the game was removed from sale, and its online services were permanently closed at the end of 2024.
The project was abandoned by the developers (IllFonic), leaving only automated online bots for fans to interact with. As a result, some members of their team were let go.
What Details Have Been Confirmed So Far?
At last, Horror Inc. holds tighter control over the intellectual property and is taking charge of its development, yet despite the announcement of a new game, details about what it will entail remain unclear.
There’s no confirmed studio, gameplay footage, release window, or even a title.
It’s unclear if this game will maintain the multiplayer format from its previous version or choose a new path entirely, according to Barsamian.
It’s been particularly disheartening for many, given the extended wait for Jason’s comeback, due to the ambiguity surrounding the situation.
