Jess and Schmidt from the popular TV show “New Girl” are coming together again – sort of! For seven seasons, Zooey Deschanel and Max Greenfield portrayed Jess Day and Schmidt on the Emmy-nominated Fox sitcom. To call Jess’s character eccentric might be an understatement. The series starts with a heartbroken Jess, a young teacher, moving into a loft with three guys, leading to plenty of funny events. “New Girl” aired from 2011 to 2018 for a total of seven seasons.
In the final episode of Season 36, airing on May 18th, Zooey Deschanel and Max Greenfield are set to revisit their roles from New Girl, but with an unexpected turn. According to reports, they’re poking fun at their characters in this particular episode. You can watch a preview of the scene below.
Lisa Simpson Binge Watches “Quirk Girl”
In the scene on Sunday’s episode, Lisa Simpson (Yeardley Smith) is found engrossed in an episode of a TV series titled Quirk Girl, on her tablet, just as Marge (Julie Kavner) enters to offer her a snack. Lisa remarks, “Currently, my friends and I are catching up on this show from the golden age of television – it debuted in 2013.
Switching gears here, let me tell you about a scene I just saw that had me chuckling as a nod to “New Girl”. The camera pans over to my tablet screen, where the title of the show – Quirk Girl – is displayed. In an episode that’s obviously inspired by this classic sitcom, Zooey Deschanel enters her apartment and finds “Schultz” sitting on a couch, cuddling a brand new puppy!
Deschanel’s character exclaims affectionately, “Oh, Schultz, you have a dog? How adorable!” In response, Greenfield’s character, Schultz, replies playfully, “I merely borrowed him to impress the ladies.
Schultz: “I’m In Terrible Pain!”
Immediately, the puppy nips him on the hand and Schultz exclaims, “Ouch, my fingers! I’m in such pain!” He struggles to make air quote gestures with his hurt fingers before leaving the room swiftly.
In the meantime, Deschanel’s “Quirky Girl” suddenly produces a ukulele, as if by magic, and starts singing a little ditty that could be how Jess might respond to the situation: “Sometimes a horny guy gets bitten by a real dog, la-la-la!
Switching back to me, I’m giggling at the screen, remarking, “She gave permission for adorable women to be beautiful!
Deschanel is well-acquainted with The Simpsons; she made an appearance in a Season 19 episode portraying one of Cletus’ numerous daughters, Mary Spuckler. Additionally, she reprised her role in two more episodes during the series’ 24th season.

Expect a New Voice in the Finale
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m excitedly looking forward to the final episode of “The Simpsons” 36th season, titled “Estranger Things.” In this heart-pounding adventure, I find myself worrying alongside Marge as Bart and Lisa seemingly lose their bond over their favorite show, “Itchy & Scratchy.” Little do they know, the rift between them is just the beginning of a much bigger storm!
In the final episode, it’s been announced that Kelly Macleod will step into the role, henceforth voicing Bart’s friend, Millhouse. She will appear in just a single scene during the grand finale.
On Hulu, you can stream “The Simpsons”. For “New Girl” fans, it’s available both on Hulu and Peacock. The season finale of “The Simpsons”, Season 36, will broadcast this coming Sunday, May 18th, on Fox.
