Renowned Japanese studio Toho, known for producing Godzilla and being the base for Akira Kurosawa, announced on Friday that Takashi Yamazaki has agreed to direct the upcoming film in the iconic series. Notably, Yamazaki was responsible for scripting, directing, and supervising visual effects in Godzilla Minus One, and he is set to assume these roles once again for the new project.

It’s undecided if the upcoming Godzilla film will continue the story from Godzilla Minus One, or if it will be a separate movie on its own. As the longest-running movie franchise globally, with the first installment dating back to 1954 and 36 movies showcasing the monster since then.
In terms of value for money in visual effects, Godzilla Minus One, produced on a budget of merely $15 million, was nothing short of astonishing. This modestly-funded production managed to gross an impressive $116 million globally, setting a new record for live-action Japanese films.
