New Judas Priest documentary will have a guitar legend as director

For half a century, Judas Priest has been stirring up heavy metal mayhem, selling countless albums and earning a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band is led by Rob Halford, an iconic figure in the metal community for his courage, as he boldly declared his homosexuality during a time when the music industry was dominated by tough, macho men.

Beyond just Rob Halford’s personal life, Judas Priest is a powerhouse band that has given us hits like “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin'” and “Breaking the Law.” They continue to rock hard and their latest album, Invincible Shield, released in 2024, generally received favorable feedback.

One of the two heavy metal legends hailing from Birmingham, England, is indeed this band. The other is none other than Black Sabbath. While Sabbath played a significant role in inspiring Priest, Judas Priest has also left an indelible mark on hundreds of metal bands that emerged afterward.

Tom Morello will co-direct a new documentary about Judas Priest

This project will be jointly directed by two individuals – one of whom is Tom Morello, famously known as the guitarist from Rage Against the Machine. The other director is Sam Dunn, an accomplished documentarian.

Put simply, you can trust that the movie is being handled competently since Dunn excels at creating high-quality documentaries, and Morello is a seasoned chronicler of rock history. He has even been on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame board, helping induct several notable hard rock musicians into its ranks.

Title for the documentary: “The Tale of Judas Priest”

We’re looking forward to unveiling an intimate portrayal of the band, offering perspectives never before revealed. While 50 years might seem like a vast expanse, it makes the project all the more enriching and rewarding.

The company Song Music Vision plans to create and debut a movie, but the specific launch date remains unspecified, as does the platform through which it will be distributed. At this point, it’s undetermined whether the film will go straight to streaming services or hit theaters first. The relevant details about its release strategy, including where it would stream if chosen for that route, are yet to be disclosed.
