A play based on the life of renowned country musician Loretta Lynn is currently being created, with Sutton Foster set to take the leading role.
Composer Jeanine Tesori, a Tony Award winner known for her work on ‘Fun Home’, ‘Kimberly Akimbo’, ‘Caroline, or Change’, ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ and other shows, is handling the music production for the upcoming show. Director Sam Gold, another Tony Award recipient, who previously collaborated with Tesori on ‘Fun Home’, and has recently directed ‘Romeo+Juliet’ and ‘An Enemy of the People’, will be at the helm as the director.
The musical titled “Coal Miner’s Daughter” is based on the 1980 movie and Loretta Lynn’s autobiography, chronicling her transformation from a rural Kentucky resident to a renowned country music artist. The stage production will feature songs from Lynn’s career, such as “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl” and “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” and delve deeper into her story than the film does.
2012 saw Lynn announcing that Zoey Deschanel would play the role of herself in a Broadway musical based on her life.
The crew is made up of Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson, Bee Carrozzini, and ATG Entertainment. Patsy Lynn, who manages, produces for, and is the daughter of Lynn, will take on a role as a consulting producer, along with Nancy Russell, who has been an advisor for a long time.
Ashley, who has been honored with two Tony Awards, has recently graced the stage on Broadway in plays like “The Music Man“, “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street“, and “Once Upon a Mattress“. She received her Tony Awards for playing leading roles in “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and “Anything Goes“.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that my mom, Loretta Lynn, will keep inspiring hearts through her life story and music with Sutton’s portrayal in the upcoming project. This was one of her last creative endeavors, and it was heartening to witness her initial excitement about Sutton’s sincere performance as herself. Mom instantly connected with Sutton and believed she was the perfect choice to bring her onstage. We’re touched by this team’s dedication to preserving my mom’s legacy.
