New On Netflix, Disney+, And More: 5 Streaming Shows And Movies To Watch This Week (December 9 -15)

As a long-time fan of cinema and a connoisseur of all things streaming, I must say this week’s lineup is nothing short of a feast for the eyes! The diversity and quality of content across different platforms are truly astounding.

As we move deeper into December, it’s apparent that the creators of top-tier streaming services are aware of the chilly weather outside. This awareness is reflected in the abundance of exciting content they’re adding to their platforms this week. In fact, I could easily dedicate this entire list to the fresh offerings on Netflix and the forthcoming attractions on Disney+, as there’s more than enough intriguing content on these platforms alone.

This week, you can find at least one intriguing show or film on each major streaming platform that’s definitely worth watching. Ranging from blockbuster movies premiering online for the first time to the latest additions in popular series, here are the highlights of what’s hitting the streaming scene this week.

New TV

Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was… – December 10 (Netflix)

Approximately two years have passed since Jamie Foxx’s unexpected health incident, an event that garnered widespread attention. Since then, he hasn’t shared many details about it in public. However, that might change this week if you have a Netflix subscription and watch his new comedy special titled “What Had Happened Was“. Reports from the taping suggest that Foxx plans to talk about his experience, albeit in a humorous manner.

Dream Productions – December 11 (Disney+)

It appears that “Inside Out 2” is poised to be the highest-earning film in 2024, given the high anticipation for it. Given that Dream Productions is the focus of this upcoming Disney+ limited series, we can expect a comedic depiction of a studio environment, reminiscent of a mockumentary style. This series promises to deliver several meta-jokes, as it explores the Dream Productions section of Riley’s mind from the first movie.

Dexter: Original Sin – December 13 (Paramount+)

In its prime, the Showtime series “Dexter” was extremely popular, but its conclusion left room for doubt when it came to continuing the narrative. However, no franchise can truly be destroyed, and so here comes “Dexter: Original Sin,” a prequel series. In this new installment, Patrick Gibson plays Dexter Morgan, while Michael C. Hall reprises his role as an older Dexter, providing narration for the storyline.

New Movies

Red One – December 12 (Prime Video)

Despite earning $164 million globally at the box office, the Christmas film “Red One” featuring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans hasn’t managed to turn a significant profit given its high production cost. Initially intended for cinema release, it was also designed as a streaming exclusive for Amazon Prime Video subscribers. So, if you’ve been eagerly anticipating watching “Red One,” you won’t have to wait much longer as it will soon be available on the platform.

Joker: Folie à Deux – December 13 (Max)

The follow-up film to the blockbuster “Joker,” titled “Joker: Folie à Deux,” didn’t generate the same box office success with its unconventional, non-musical sequel. However, many movies that faltered at the box office have found their audience on streaming services. If you have a Max subscription, you can watch “Joker: Folie à Deux” and form your own opinion about whether the sequel lives up to the negative reviews.

In seven days, we’ll be moving into the second part of December, which means we’re nearing the end of this year. Rest assured, there’s still plenty of excitement ahead before we bid farewell to 2024!
