New Parents Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina Are Still True-Crime Obsessives in ‘Based on a True Story’ Season 2 Trailer

As a fan who’s spent countless hours bingeing true-crime documentaries and dark comedies, I can’t help but feel like Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina have been eavesdropping on my late-night TV sessions! The return of “Based on a True Story” is an absolute delight for me.

Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina, Tom Bateman, and Liana Liberato return for another round of murder and chaos in the second season of Based on a True Story. This time around, they’ve got a tiny, new companion tagging along.

The show, “Based on a True Story,” is loosely based or partially inspired by real events. It uses humor to mock common themes in crime dramas. In this series, Kaley Cuoco and Giancarlo Esposito play Ava and Nathan, a struggling couple who encounter the notorious serial killer known as “The Westside Ripper” in Los Angeles. Ava, an ardent true-crime enthusiast, proposes making a podcast with the murderer as a means to revitalize their marriage.

Following the occurrences of Season 1, Season 2 begins by showcasing Ava and Nathan as fresh parents who aim to disengage from the true-crime world; however, the trailer hints that their intentions won’t last long. The narrative commences with Ava and Nathan grappling to reconcile parenthood with leaving behind their fixation. Yet, their strong connections to the Westside Ripper (warning: spoiler) make it extremely challenging for them to do so.

All eight episodes of the 30-minute dark comedy drop Nov. 21 on Peacock.

In the second season of “Physical”, Annie Weisman stepped up to serve as the showrunner, while Craig Rosenberg continues his role as an executive producer. Notably, Melissa Fumero has joined the cast in a fresh and unexpected capacity.

As an ardent fan of Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina, I initially became captivated by ‘Based on a True Story.’ It’s the perfect mix of sharp wit, gripping action, and characters that resonate with me. When I joined the series, I expressed my excitement about it in a statement, emphasizing the show’s engaging blend of dark humor, pulpy action, and relatable characters. In the second season, we’ve further developed these intriguing themes, introduced captivating new character dynamics, and advanced an engrossing murder mystery that keeps moving forward.

In the second season, Ava and Nathan Bartlett have been parents for three months. Ava is committed to caring for her family and trying to put aside her fascination with true crimes to get back to work as a real estate agent. Meanwhile, Nathan is honing his skills as a private tennis coach. However, a string of fresh murders lures Ava back into the game – could Matt (Bateman) be responsible? Is Tory (Liberato), who’s now involved with Matt, in peril? For a while, things seem to be going well – Ava finds solace in her TikTok hobby and her new friend Drew (Fumero), while Nathan is eager to rekindle his tennis career and friendship with Matt. But trouble comes knocking when danger makes an unexpected appearance.
