As a seasoned movie critic, I eagerly anticipate the assembly of the enigmatic Thunderbolts in the tantalizing trailer for the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) production. Marking the climax of Phase Five, the Thunderbolts will undoubtedly go out with a boom by gathering an assortment of antiheroes from the MCU’s storied past and propelling them on a perilous mission that could very well reshape the Marvel universe as we know it.
While the absence of the Avengers may leave a void, fear not, for there is still a band of heroes gracing our screens – they go by the name Thunderbolts. However, one might argue just how “super” this new team truly is…
You can check out the new trailer for Thunderbolts* below.
Under the guidance of director Jake Schreier, with script by Eric Pearson and Lee Sung Jin, this tale will center around a band of characters, both heroes and antiheroes, as indicated in the title. This ensemble cast boasts several well-known figures from Marvel’s past, such as Bucky Barnes (portrayed by Sebastian Stan), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).
In addition to the Marvel adventure, the actor Lewis Pullman, known for his role in Top Gun: Maverick, will join the franchise. He will play Robert Reynolds, a character also known as Sentry, who is frequently compared to Superman due to his dual nature of being both a hero and a villain within him.
Thunderbolts* Is Due to Land in Theaters in May 2025
Over the recent Marvel phases, there’s been plenty of discussion about whether the franchise and superhero genre are nearing their end. However, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s star Wyatt Russell seems to disagree. The actor, who will return as John Walker (U.S. Agent) in Thunderbolts*, has hinted that the upcoming team-up film won’t be your typical Marvel movie and emphasized that now is the perfect time to create a great one.
This Marvel film isn’t like the ones you’ve seen before. I believe it will be enjoyable, but also different in a way that might catch fans off guard. We’re committed to creating something special, so let’s roll up our sleeves and put in the effort to make this a great Marvel movie.
The movie titled “Thunderbolts” is set for a U.S. release on May 5, 2025, marking its position as the final film in Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Before that, the movie “Captain America: Brave New World” will kick off the MCU’s return to theaters on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025, hoping to capitalize on the box office success of “Deadpool” and “Wolverine”.
