As a movie reviewer with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the latest glimpse at “Venom: The Last Dance” has me more intrigued than a symbiote latched onto a Spider-Man costume. Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom finds himself in a planetary pickle this time around, facing off against an army of symbiotes led by their creator, Knull.
Prepares to confront more symbiotes in the upcoming installment titled “Venom: The Last Dance“. The latest sneak peek, named “Future“, reveals Tom Hardy engaged in numerous high-octane action scenes and near misses. In this final chapter of Sony Pictures’ Venom series, Eddie Brock/Venom confronts a universal threat as portrayed by Hardy. The ominous words, “An army is coming that cannot be defeated,” are spoken by Venom to his ally Eddie Brock in the newly-released footage. You can watch it below.
The footage opens with the symbiote warning Eddie that more of his kind are coming and the one leading the assault is its creator. Knull, god of darkness and creator of the symbiotes, including Venom, will seemingly invade the earth with a swarm of symbiotes in the sequel, and Eddie Brock/Venom find themselves on the run. We see the symbiotes and a fanged creature attacking Venom on top of an airplane while more tentacled hounds lead the charge on the ground as they attack an army base. Up against impossible odds, the text ominously reads “Venom’s past could end our future.”
Screenwriter Kelly Marcel, known for her work on “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” and other films, is set to make her directorial debut in the upcoming third installment of the franchise. Marcel will collaborate with Tom Hardy once more to develop the storyline. In this movie, Hardy joins forces with Chiwetel Ejiofor (from “Doctor Strange” and “12 Years a Slave”), Juno Temple (“Ted Lasso” and “Fargo”), Rhys Ifans (“House of the Dragon” and “Notting Hill”), and Alanna Ubach (“Ted” and “Meet the Fockers”). Peggy Lu reprises her role as Mrs. Chen, while Stephen Graham returns to play Detective Mulligan.
Is This The Last Of Venom?
Fans were disheartened to learn that The Last Dance would mark the conclusion of Venom’s trilogy. The first movie, which debuted in 2018, was a box office hit but received mixed reviews, with an audience score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 30% critics’ score. In contrast, its sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, garnered higher ratings of 84% among audiences and 57% from critics. Hardy shared a heartfelt message online, reflecting on his time as the franchise lead and announcing that it would come to an end.
I appreciate seven wonderful years together, and I can’t express enough how fantastic it’s been collaborating with Venom. Our latest adventure marks our final project, and we’re going out with a bang! Don’t miss our swan song – it concludes our trilogy.
Although the primary Venom series has concluded, there’s a possibility that we haven’t seen the last of Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock. Marvel enthusiasts might recall the post-credits scene in Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) where Venom was moved into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Hardy’s Brock appearing in the finale of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Given Marvel Studios’ penchant for creating cameo opportunities, as demonstrated by this summer’s blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine, there is certainly potential for the character within the multiversal chaos if Hardy and Sony Pictures are open to it. For now, fans can only anticipate, create memes, and hope for the encounter between Hardy’s Venom and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
