Nicole Kidman to Receive Milestone Women in Motion Award During Cannes Film Festival

Nicole Kidman will soon be in motion heading back to Cannes.

The award-winning actress, who had a remarkable year in 2024 with roles in films such as “Babygirl,” “Holland,” “Lioness,” “The Perfect Couple,” “A Family Affair,” and “Expats,” has officially been selected to receive the upcoming Women in Motion Award. This prestigious accolade, given during the Cannes Film Festival by the festival itself and its long-term partner Kering, will be bestowed upon her on May 18 at a glamorous event. This ceremony, often graced by members of the Cannes jury, A-list celebrities, directors, and film industry professionals, is traditionally held during the festival.

Nicole Kidman will receive the Women in Motion milestone award, joining an esteemed group of honorees that also includes Donna Langley (NBCUniversal CEO), Jane Fonda, Isabelle Huppert, Patty Jenkins, Geena Davis, Susan Sarandon, Viola Davis, Michelle Yeoh, Gong Li, and Salma Hayek Pinault. This award recognizes women in the film industry who, through their work and dedication, contribute to the empowerment of women both in cinema and society.

Nicole Kidman has consistently exceeded her promise, particularly in the last few years since her 2017 commitment to work with a female director every 18 months. She’s collaborated with almost 20 directors since then. In 2017, Kidman was at Cannes for the presentation of the Cannes Film Festival’s 70th anniversary prize and the world premiere of Sofia Coppola’s film, The Beguiled. However, Kidman’s connection with Cannes goes back much further, with films like her debut, Far and Away, followed by To Die For, Moulin Rouge, Dogville, Hemingway & Gellhorn, Paperboy, Grace of Monaco, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Top of the Lake: China Girl and How to Talk to Girls at Parties also gracing the festival.

François-Henri Pinault, the head of Kering, chose Nicole Kidman as the ideal representative for this special edition of Women In Motion because she embodies the essence of the program. Her artistic excellence, her consistent decisions, and her tangible efforts to alter cinematic depictions reflect the values that Women In Motion has been advocating for over a decade.

The creator of Blossom Films is set to appear in the new season of Nine Perfect Strangers, which airs on Hulu and is a series she also produces as an executive. Upcoming ventures include Margo’s Financial Woes, where she will act alongside Elle Fanning, and Scarpetta, a project featuring Jamie Lee Curtis.
