Nike CFO Confirms Business of Kobe Bryant Brand Has Quadrupled in the Past Year

As a longtime Nike enthusiast and basketball fanatic who’s followed Kobe Bryant‘s career since his rookie days, I can’t help but feel exhilarated by the recent growth of the Black Mamba’s sub-brand. It’s like watching one of Kobe’s game-winning performances all over again! The fact that the Kobe line has quadrupled its business in just 12 months is nothing short of phenomenal, and it’s a testament to the enduring legacy of one of the greatest players to ever step onto an NBA court.

Just got off a call with Nike earlier today – their Q1 FY2025 earnings call, to be precise! Their Chief Financial Officer, Matt Friend, spilled some exciting numbers about the company’s revenue, showing a substantial increase compared to last year. Feeling pretty hyped about that growth as a fellow gaming enthusiast and sneakerhead!

Among all its segments, what really grabbed attention was their Kobe Bryant business division. This sub-brand has experienced a fourfold increase in growth over the past year, and much of this success is credited to the expanding footwear line. In a call with investors, he stated, “Expanding our focus across all products, especially footwear, we observe signs of advancement in speeding up newness and innovation. The Q1 revenue from new footwear products surged significantly higher than the previous year. This includes various franchises that have rapidly expanded, as indicated by unit growth over the past 12 months. For instance, Sabrina has increased about fivefold, Kobe has nearly quadrupled, and AlphaFly has almost tripled.

1) Kobe Brand shoes remain highly coveted footwear items from Nike. In 2024, a total of 15 distinct shoe designs under the Kobe Bryant nickname were launched. Meanwhile, Sabrina Ionescu’s footwear is gaining increasing interest in women’s basketball and the WNBA as a whole. Given their close bond both on and off the court, it’s no wonder that Nike brands associated with Ionescu and the Bryant family have experienced growth. Additionally, other popular models like the “Vomero 5, P2K, and P-6000” have seen a significant increase in popularity, with the latter experiencing over four times more demand compared to the previous year.
