As someone who has spent countless hours traversing virtual worlds and real-life terrains with a backpack strapped to my back, I must say that Nike’s Elite EasyOn backpack is a game-changer!
To ensure readiness for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Nike collaborated intimately with Paralympic athletes in designing a backpack model that offers seamless functionality suitable for individuals across various physical capabilities.
Backpacks may not be the first thing people think of when considering designing for people living with disabilities, but brands often overlook the need for adaptive features that address limited range of motion or motor skills. The Elite EasyOn backpack boasts several key features that make it usable by every body including a magnetic flap closure and adjustable strap clasps.
Nike mentioned that feedback from athletes with adaptive needs found conventional zippers challenging due to issues with dexterity or mobility limitations. To make things simpler, they incorporated magnetic closures, allowing users to open the bag easily using just one arm or a gentle pull or push. Additionally, adjustable strap locations offer multiple carrying options based on individual capabilities, and the bags can even be hung on the back of a wheelchair for convenience.
The main objective of our development team was to cater to users with disabilities, but the advantage of designing adaptively is that it benefits everyone by making our products more accessible to a broader audience. As Nike’s Lead Equipment Designer Brent Radewald put it, “By creating an improved product for our adaptive athletes, we are ultimately enhancing our offerings for all athletes.
You can purchase the Nike Elite EasyOn backpack right now from their official online store or certain authorized retailers.
