As a follower of both competitive eating and pop culture, I found myself glued to my Netflix screen on Labor Day, eagerly anticipating the long-awaited showdown between Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi. However, it was a different star who caught my eye – Nikki Bella, the WWE’s Nikki Bella, co-hosting the event amidst her personal struggles.
Following Joey Chestnut’s ban from Nathan’s annual Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest, spectators eagerly anticipated Labor Day, as it marked the highly-anticipated face-off between Chestnut and his longtime rival Takeru Kobayashi. However, when viewers logged onto Netflix on September 2nd, they were surprised to see Nikki Garcia – also known as WWE’s Nikki Bella – co-hosting the event. This was just days after her husband Artem Chigvintsev was arrested for domestic violence charges. Amidst this situation, social media users expressed their support and well-wishes towards Nikki Garcia.
Nikki Bella asked for privacy after her husband, Artem Chigvintsev, who she began dating in 2019 following their time together on Dancing with the Stars, was arrested. The person involved in the case asked to remain anonymous. Although details surrounding Artem’s arrest are scarce, it’s clear that this has been a challenging week for Nikki, and many were touched to see her continuing with her professional commitments, as evidenced by this Twitter user’s post.
Many others were taken aback by Nikki Garcia’s decision to participate in the event. One admirer even commented on Twitter, praising her for looking “fantastic”.
Surprisingly, given all that’s transpired recently, it’s Nikki Garcia who’s hosting the event.
Many individuals on social media observed that Nikki Bella appeared to be without her wedding ring during the eating contest she co-hosted with Rob Riggle, yet the primary concern (for me and other fans) was ensuring that she was doing well. Their posts expressed: “Nikki seems to be without her wedding ring, but what truly matters is that she’s alright.”
Nikki Garcia (fka Nikki Bella) is LIVE on Netflix for the Unfinished Beef Hot Dog challenge! She looks great, thank God! She is currently not wearing her wedding ring. Glad to see she is okay 🙏🏾❤️
More comments of love and support followed along those lines, including:

Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev are parents of one child, their son Matteo, born in 2020. They got married two years later, in 2022, having been dance partners before. However, on August 29, 2022, in Napa County, California, Artem was taken into custody on charges related to domestic violence. Specifically, he was accused of violating California’s penal code which prohibits harming a spouse, cohabitant, or fellow parent. Allegations of injuries were made at the scene. Eventually, Chigvintsev was released after posting a $25,000 bail bond.
In simpler terms, it’s likely that we’ll hear more about this delicate matter, but in the meantime, it’s comforting for Netflix users to find Nikki Bella on their screens, as she carries on with her journey.
